Tom Sandoval’s ex-assistant, Ann Maddox, hinted at what went wrong with her working at Something About Her, the sandwich shop owned by Tom’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Madix, after Ann’s strange exit.
Fans of Vanderpump Rules were first introduced to Ann as Tom’s assistant shortly after the couple’s breakup in the aftermath of his affair with Rachel Leviss. At the time, Ariana and Tom weren’t speaking (despite living in the same house), so Ann would act as their go-between in each dispute.
Later on, Tom fired Ann for being interviewed for a potential job with Ariana. The interview happened within Tom’s earshot. Though Ariana didn’t hire Ann immediately, she later gave her a job at Something About Her (until she was mysteriously let go).
On The Reality of the Reality podcast, Ann was asked if her job with Ariana was guaranteed before Tom fired her.
“No,” said Ann. “It was one of those things where I knew I was rolling the dice, but in my head I was like, I do need to get out of this situation. … For me personally, you know, when [Tom] was like very depressed and stuff — like I have mental health issues in my family … I was diagnosed with PTSD and stuff — so just being around that is very tough. So I knew it wasn’t the best environment for me at the time. And I saw an opportunity, and I knew it’s not guaranteed, but I knew I wanted it.”
“[Then] I was hired by Something About Her, the sandwich shop,” she went on. “And things were a little slow in the development of the sandwich shop because of permits and everything … I would help out sometimes by, like, help setting up the security system … It was like a very, like, temp part-time … [but] I thought that it was going to be a full-time job … And then it was like, I need to pay rent.”
Ann then seemingly hinted that she signed an NDA for Ariana. She also recalled when she was Ariana and Tom’s go-between.
“It was fascinating,” said Ann. “[I’m the] daughter of divorced parents. My mom speaks Japanese, didn’t really speak English. My dad, American, didn’t really speak Japanese, so I feel like I was like trained for this. Like I sometimes translated for my parents when they were arguing.”
