Brittany Cartwright recently claimed she’s paying her estranged husband Jax Taylor‘s taxes each month, but in a statement, he denied it through his attorney.
As she also spoke of their impending divorce, their co-parenting relationship, and Jax’s visit to Hooters with their five-year-old son, Cruz, the 37-year-old cast member of The Valley admitted that she had no interest in being friends with Jax, 46, reflected on her split from Brandon Hanson, and shared an update on her love life.
“That’s why our divorce is taking so long, by the way: The house,” Brittany explained during a May 13 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “So we’ll see what happens … There has been a date set probably five times, and now there’s another one in July, so fingers crossed.”
According to Brittany, the house and Jax’s tax issues are a “big issue” when it comes to finalizing their divorce.
“I’m still paying for his taxes monthly until we figure out the situation. It’s okay, though. I’m glad I can do it all. I really wanted Cruz to be stable and in his home, in his happy place. It was very important for me,” she alleged, sharing that Jax’s name would be off the home “as soon as [their] divorce is finally finalized.”
“But he has not paid for anything for the house in over a year, plus,” Brittany added.
But in a statement from attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan, Jax denied that Brittany was paying his bills.
“Regarding Brittany’s statement that she owns the house and Jax doesn’t, I don’t know what universe she is in, but that house is a community house that they both have equal interest in,” he told ET in a statement. “If she is curious why she’s been paying payments for the last year, it’s because she has been the only one occupying the house for the last year. Additionally, she is not paying any of Jax’s tax liability.”
Regarding her co-parenting relationship with Jax, Brittany admitted it was “not easy.”
“We both want to put Cruz first. I will say that,” she confirmed. “Our custody is already completed. I have him [the] majority of the time. Jax has him on Wednesdays and every other weekend.”
As for Jax taking Cruz to Hooters, for which he got backlash last month, Brittany clarified that she was not upset at all.
“Hello, I’m in the Hooters Hall of Fame … and I take Cruz to Hooters, too,” she revealed.
As for how Jax does upset her, Brittany said, “There’s just so much,” even though he’s sober now.
“That doesn’t go away just cuz somebody’s sober, and it’s been a journey, but I’m trying to get this divorce finalized, so I don’t want to say too much until it’s finalized,” she admitted.
For now, Brittany wants to keep a distance between herself and Jax.
“I have no desire to be friends with him right now, but I want us to be okay to be around each other,” she explained. “I have to protect my peace.”
Moving on to Brandon, Brittany said they were destined to fail.
“There was already a lot of hard stuff going on with our relationship, like he has three kids … so that was an issue, and the distance was a little bit of an issue, and then it just didn’t feel right after a certain amount of time,” she confessed. “I felt like the bubbliness of us being friends and the fun in the beginning, I was like, okay, I don’t actually want to be in a relationship right now.”
Brittany also signaled the way Brandon involved himself in the drama on The Valley.
“A lot of the stuff that he did I wasn’t even around for so watching that stuff back I was like, ‘Oh God,’ so that was definitely a red flag too,” she explained. “I kinda like that he was okay with [filming the show], but I didn’t realize how okay with it he was until I watched it back.”
Also during the interview, Brittany confirmed she’s dating.
“I have a crush, but I’m not in a relationship or anything like that, just seeing where it goes and having fun and dating,” she revealed. “It’s been over two years now since I’ve been single … I worked on myself so much and Cruz is doing great and that’s my number one concern, so as long as somebody can fit into that eventually … it just depends on how that kind of goes. I’m just taking it slow and easy.”
The Valley season three airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
