In today’s sad news that many probably saw coming, Shannon Beador and David Beador are getting divorced after 17 years of marriage.
The Real Housewives of Orange County reunion is filming today and Shannon shared the news during filming, while she also gave an interview ahead of the reunion to confirm her separation from David. This comes weeks after an earlier report stated the couple was on the brink of divorce.
Shannon, 53, confirmed the news to PEOPLE in an interview during which she revealed they actually split about a month ago.
“It’s heartbreaking for me and my daughters that this is the road that had to be taken but it’s the only way,” said Shannon. “I felt alone in my marriage. You can do what you can to keep your family together, but you have to have willing parties. You need two people to make a marriage work, and that just wasn’t happening in our relationship.”
Shannon reveals that her breaking point was seeing the impact her troubled marriage was having on her daughters.
“As a mother, I want to be a good role model for my daughters,” Shannon explained. “Three years ago I was proud of what I showed them, because I fought for keeping my family together after infidelity. As the last year went by, it’s been extremely difficult and painful to watch the show, because clearly I was in denial about what was going on in my marriage. I was taking things out on other people instead of at home. … As a mother you keep thinking about your daughters and you have to say, ‘This is an unhealthy environment.’ Not only is it unhealthy for me, but it’s unhealthy for my girls, too. They deserve a happy and joyful home, and I am providing that for them now.”
The good news is despite their separation, the couple is still able to co-parent their daughters together and gather for weekly dinners to make the transition easier for everyone. They also recently came together for a game at the University of Southern California on October 14 as seen in the Instagram post shared below by Shannon.

“I’m a strong person,” she said. “At this point it’s scary, when you’re 53 years old, to be out there on your own. But I intend to show myself and my daughters that it can be done. I’m ready to get the old Shannon back, that’s for sure.”
This news comes days after reports came out shedding more light on a domestic violence incident that occurred between David and Shannon back in 2003. While Shannon had tried to downplay it on the RHOC as an argument that got out of hand, it was revealed she received a protective order against David who was also ordered to attend a ‘Batterer’s Treatment’ program following his arrest for assault and battery during a fight with Shannon.
