It’s official! Mackenzie McKee has joined the cast of Teen Mom OG to replace Farrah Abraham, who was fired from the MTV series earlier this year.
According to a new report, the former Teen Mom 3 cast member and her family, including husband Josh McKee and their three kids, have officially joined the show and begun filming for the upcoming season.
On February 27, TMZ revealed producers of Teen Mom OG recently approached McKee about the possibility of joining the show in a full-time role and had previously been working with her to create a two-hour special about her mother’s battle with stage 4 brain cancer.
McKee and her husband have been married since August 2013 and share three kids together, sons Gannon and Broncs and daughter Jaxie.
McKee’s potential addition to Teen Mom OG was first reported weeks ago but at the time, their source noted that it would likely be Ryan Edwards‘ wife, Mackenzie Standifer, who would be replacing Abraham on the series.
Following Abraham’s exit from Teen Mom OG, the former reality star accused MTV staffers of degrading her and shaming her for doing porn and other work in the adult industry. She then filed a $5 million lawsuit against the network and Viacom, claiming she was wrongfully terminated from her role on the show because she refused to conform to a gender stereotype.
In response to the news of McKee’s casting, Abraham released a statement to Us Weekly.
“I wish them all the best with the show. I’m out on a high note. This is the longest season in history and I’m their biggest star,” Abraham said. “I can do my own show, but I don’t want to focus on reality TV. I’m focusing on scripted opportunities but will always enjoy a good reality TV project.”
“I don’t know what the show is doing,” she added. “You could take all the girls on all the series, but none can bring or do as much as I do for the series.”
MTV has stayed mum on the report.
