There are three words that sum up Real Housewives of New York City star, Bethenny Frankel, and they all start with B: bold, blunt…and brutal! If she’s thinking it, she’s going to say it, whether you like it, or not. And you’re probably not.
That was certainly the case when she confronted costar, Dorinda Medley, over her drinking during the recent RHONY episode. And as is usually the case when it comes to Bethenny, it wasn’t so much the message that caused a problem, but the delivery.
“You treat me worse sometimes than Ramona (Singer). I just cut you slack because you’re a drunk,” Bethenny told Dorinda. And following last week’s episode, Bethenny is now speaking out on why she said the D-word to Dorinda, as she also appears to try to backtrack a bit.
During a recent interview, Dorinda called the drunk comment “hurtful”, “mean”, and “unnecessary.”
Of course, now the question is why did Bethenny feel the need to be so blunt, in the first place? Was it coming from a good place, or was she just being snarky? Luckily for us, she took to Twitter to explain.
Bethenny tweeted, “Honestly, it isn’t my job, or business, except that we were embarking on this journey together, and it had to be said for it to be meaningful and authentic.”

In an earlier tweet, perhaps after getting some push back from Twitter fans, Bethenny attempted to soften her original statement.
She wrote, “That was me saying ‘you’re drunk’, ‘not you’re a drunk’. The nuance is important. Listen for it. Either way…”

Bethenny also shared that she’s uncomfortable discussing the topic, due to her childhood.
“This gives me anxiety and brings me back to my childhood in many ways..it makes me uncomfortable and I am sorry,” she tweeted.

As for Dorinda, she made it clear during Wednesday’s episode that she didn’t agree with Bethenny labeling her “a drunk”.
“I’ve got a lot going on in my life right now,” Dorinda explained to Bethenny. “It’s not an excuse; I’m just saying my frustrations come out very quickly. It intensifies. And I’ve got to work on that,” she continued.

Dorinda went on to say that she didn’t think she had a drinking problem, but that she realized it impacted her behavior.
“I don’t think I’m an alcoholic. I think I use alcohol as an excuse to sometimes exhibit bad behavior,” she said.
