After news hit the web that the on-again, off-again boyfriend of Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel was found dead at his Trump Tower apartment on Friday morning, Jill Shields released a statement.
“We are all heartbroken. Dennis was, and will always be, the love of my life. His spirit lives on in our children. Please respect our family’s privacy at this time,” she said in her statement to People on August 10.
Dennis, who was 51 at the time of his passing, and Jill were married for 26 years before separating in 2016. At that point, Dennis began dating Bethenny and was frequently spotted with the reality star and Skinnygirl creator in the Big Apple.
A new report by TMZ is also shedding more light on Dennis’s passing. According to the site, Dennis took an unknown number of oxycodone pills on Thursday night, and woke up Friday morning feeling sick.
He then asked his maid to head to the pharmacy to go buy him Narcan — a medication which reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. At some point however, he became unconsciousness and remained unresponsive as his maid tried to administer the Narcan.
As fans of RHONY may know, Bethenny and Dennis had been in one another’s lives for nearly three decades before they began their romance two years ago. Bethenny was also once close to Dennis’ wife and called her a friend during their high school years.
“We’ve spoken three times in 25 years,” Bethenny told People of her relationship with Jill in a previous interview.
According to a report shared on August 10 by E! News, Bethenny is said to be “heartbroken” over Dennis’ passing.
“This is really bad. It’s dreadful. She’s known him for over 20 years,” the insider said. “She’s heartbroken.”
I just heard the sad news about Dennis. He was a good man. My condolences to all his family and friends. So tragic.

Oddly enough, today also happens to be the anniversary of the death of Carole’s late husband Anthony Radziwill. He passed away on August 10, 1999.
Sad day. I was told this is the anniversary of your husbands death. Very sad day, indeed.

Sonja Morgan also spoke to Radar Online about Dennis. “This is heartbreaking,” she told the site. “I spoke to Bethenny yesterday to say I was going to Coast Rica, in case she wanted to come and get away. She’s been working so much.”
None of the other members of the cast have spoken out, as Radar just put out a new report claiming that Bravo has warned the cast to stay mum about Dennis’ death.
“Bravo told all of the ladies that they weren’t allowed to make a comment about Dennis’ death and Bethenny,” an insider revealed. “But the ladies have all reached out to Bethenny personally.”
The Real Housewives Of New York City airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m on Bravo TV.
