In a series of comments shared to her Instagram account this week, Thomas Ravenel‘s girlfriend confirmed Bravo TV had contacted her about season six and explained why she ultimately opted out of the new season. According to Ashley, it all comes down to money!
“I was asked back but eventually declined because what Bravo wanted to compensate me was only a tiny fraction of what everyone else is making,” Ashley explained.
She continued, “Especially in light of all the hate I have incurred this past year… it was an easy decision for me to walk away. I find my job as a nurse more rewarding. All that drama that comes with reality tv I find unhealthy. I’m just not cut out for reality TV. With that said, I wish everyone on the show well!”
After one fan responded to Ashley’s post, agreeing that “the money isn’t worth the battle,” the former reality star slammed Southern Charm for it’s toxicity.
“That’s why I declined! I’m not selling my soul. That show is so full of hate. Removing myself from that toxicity has given me so much peace. Thanks for the supportive words,” she added.
And on Tuesday night, Ashley shared a new post on her Instagram to officially announce her departure from Southern Charm. Despite announcing she was quitting the show because of money, she stated in this new post that the “editing process” is why she won’t return.
“After a lot of prayerful consideration, I have decided not to return to Southern Charm next season. I’ve been blessed with an amazing career, family, & friends and I don’t want to put those things in jeopardy for a reality tv show,” wrote Ashley.
She continued, “Honestly I considered filming again because I desperately want to tell my side of the story. But after experiencing how unfair the editing process can be, I don’t think I’ll ever have a fair shot. I appreciate you all following me throughout this journey.”
In September, Ashley spoke to PEOPLE magazine about her desire to return to Southern Charm and show a different side of herself than what was seen during season five.
“I wish they had the decency to contact me and give me a chance. Because I would like to have a redemption story, the same way Kathryn [Dennis] did. I’m not going to fight and I’m not going to play dirty. I’m going to smile and be nice. I never had the chance to do that on the show because I was so wrapped up in Thomas’ drama. I was the villain, but people tuned in to watch. I’d like to give viewers the chance to see another side of me,” she explained.
At the end of September, following Thomas’ sexual assault arrest, the former politician was removed from the series.
Southern Charm season six will air on Bravo TV sometime next year.
