Sonja Morgan is still locked down at a desert spa in Palm Springs amid COVID-19, but she’s following along with this season of The Real Housewives of New York City and has a lot to say about her co-stars.
After that wild party at Ramona Singer‘s Hamptons home in last week’s episode, Sonja confessed she had a great time with Leah McSweeney and Tinsley Mortimer, but she definitely saw Ramona’s exit to be with her “fancy friends” coming.
“It’s classic Ramona amplified now and it’s getting really annoying,” Sonja told Casey Wilson and Danielle Schneider for their Bitch Sesh podcast. “She’s always talking about these new friends and it’s like … these are people using you to sell their house or to get you to go to their charity dinner for $1500 a ticket or whatever. You know, I’ve lived this life, I’ve been there, I’ve done the charities, I do them so … I don’t get really impressed by all this. I think she should just stay home with us and get naked and get in the pool.”
Sonja added how unimpressed she is with Ramona’s “new friends” and how much she tries to roll with higher society people considering how hard it is to do.
“I love Ramona. She’s going through a phase, man,” she continued. “She’s not married any longer so she’s not part of that … she’s not ‘RaMario’ anymore. She wants to break into society when she’s got one leg into a wheelchair it’s like … you don’t do it that way. I grew up with these ladies, these ladies were my girlfriends before I married John Morgan, you know. It doesn’t work that way.”
When Ramona left the party to be with her “other friends,” Sonja still had a great time with the younger ladies, newbie Leah and Tinsley, getting drunk, stripping off their clothes, and going for a swim. It was all fun and games until Leah brought up Sonja’s perceived inability to give up her past and “Morgan” name, drunkenly shouting at her “Let it go!” numerous times.
Although the ladies did wake up the next morning on a positive (not to mention hilarious) note, Leah’s comments definitely got to Sonja.
“Some people have said that Leah was watching the show as a fan and she kinda grabbed on to that [because] she doesn’t know us that well,” Sonja explained. “Hopefully when she gets to know me a little better she’ll be eating those words, that ‘1985 is over!’ I was in college in 1985.”
Sonja also explained how offended she was by Leah’s insistence she give up the Morgan name, saying how the Morgan family is her family and how her “daughter’s legacy” means “everything” to her.
“To say I’m not family is ludicrous,” she said. “There’s a blue book with the ancestry of the Morgans and there I am, with the whole lineage! It’s not goin’ away, folks.”
As far as her relationships with the other ladies go, Sonja hasn’t always been on the best of terms with Tinsley. She contends that her main issue is with what she sees as Tinsley’s “duplicity,” or what she feels she hides from the group. She also considers Tinsley to be … a bit ungrateful.
“Tinsley came to stay with me and then she told all the girls that I was a terrible host and that I was not nice to her and it wasn’t true. Who gets to stay in a f–king beautiful townhouse for free?” Sonja lamented.
