RHONY’s Sonja Morgan Talks Century 21 Bankruptcy After Signing Deal With Retailer: “All These Years I Was Looking For the Right Place”

RHONY Star Sonja Morgan Talks Century 21 Bankruptcy After Signing Deal With Retailer: "All These Years I Was Looking For the Right Place"

Sonja Morgan can’t seem to catch a break.

The Real Housewives of New York City star has already been having some trouble getting her Upper East Side townhouse sold and finally off the market. Now, her fashion line with Century 21 has reached its tragic fate as the retailer announced on September 10 that it is filing for bankruptcy.

“I found a family there and a home for my collection,” she told Page Six on September 12. “All these years I was looking for the right place.”

The RHONY star has had a fashion line since 2014, but she inked a deal with Century 21 last year to begin selling the merchandise in stores. Since the 56-year-old discount chain revealed their bankruptcy filing last week, Sonja shared how she felt like the “rug has been pulled from under” her, saying that she was interested in other retailers, but she “felt safe with [Century 21].”

Most of all, though, Sonja noted how disappointed she was due to the plans she and the retailer had for her to take people in need on shopping sprees at the store.

“I was going to be Chief Lifestyle Officer taking people on shopping sprees. Helping people who have gone through a hard time before the pandemic,” she said.

She also added that the buying events would have been to help “people transition through hard times in their life,” and to provide much-needed wardrobes for people to “get a leg up on a job interview,” or folks “going through a sex change, coming out or coming back from the military.”

She continued, “I was going to be helping people at this point in my life — that’s what I was looking forward to. It was going to be soul food to make me feel better on a day-to-day level. It was not just about raising millions. I was just going to go on a day-to-day level with Century 21, and help people with a $500 shopping spree.”

The 56-year-old also noted that she was so upset that she wasn’t even motivated to take one last shopping spree for herself at the store.

“I don’t plan on going to Century 21 for a last [time]. I can’t even bring myself to do that,” she said.

The Real Housewives of New York City season 12 reunion continues this Thursday at 9/8c on Bravo.
