In an ironic twist, Captain Lee says his least favorite charter guest of all time is the same person who left his crew the biggest tip of all time.
In a recent interview, Lee discussed the many charter guests he’s had aboard, and when asked to dish on the biggest tip he’s ever received from a guest, he made a surprising revelation.
“I think the biggest tip in history we got, it was $35,000,” he revealed on the Side Piece with Melissa Pfeister, as reported by Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “And from the most unlikely source… Timothy Sykes!”
If fans recall, Timothy has appeared on Below Deck twice as he charted the boat in season two and then again in season five. During his first appearance, he brought along his much younger girlfriend who wasn’t a fan of upscale food and preferred dishes one would find on a kid’s menu.
“He [left the large tip] on his second trip,” Lee explained. “Because his first trip, remember he took back five grand because [we] screwed up [his] 19-year-old date’s dinner.”
“He wanted uni and all this exotic stuff, which [Chef Ben Robinson] did a great job for him,” he continued. “In fact, he had to be segregated from the rest of his guests. He didn’t want his guests, or peasants eating with him. So we segregated him. Ben prepared this lavish, extravagant meal and she [wanted] chicken fingers and quesadillas.”
Timothy also docked the crew’s tip in season two because the WiFi signal at sea wasn’t strong enough in his opinion.
At the time, Captain Lee made it known that he wasn’t a fan of Timothy’s. Though he made up for the first tip with the $35,000 tip, he made a snide comment to the captain as he handed it over, and Lee says he will never allow him back on his boat again because “money’s not everything.”
“He told me how much I’ve grown in a couple of years,” Lee chuckled, adding, “I let him have his minute.”
Captain Lee’s “worst” charter guest has attempted to explain his behavior on the show via Twitter as he blasted the season two crew and called them “trash.”
“Actually your service the [first] time around sucked, the chef got the order all wrong, your attitudes were trash…” Timothy responded after he was mentioned by Lee as he answered a fan’s question in 2018. “I’ve charted many yachts, you guys were the worst, but on my [second] trip you guys got better so I gave you [$30,000], the best tip in your history, just clearing up some facts.”
