Back in season five on The Real Housewives of Potomac, Monique Samuels had a physical encounter with castmate Candiace Dillard Bassett. At the time, Gizelle Bryant defended Candiace —although the newbie was unliked by some of the friend group.
Recently, however, a season seven trailer showed a clash between Gizelle and Candiace after the ‘OG’ claimed Candiace’s husband Chris made her “uncomfortable.”
In an interview with HollywoodLife’s Pay Attention Put-Lease! podcast, Gizelle was asked if she views the Monique drama differently in light of her new issues with Candiace.
“What does change my perspective of that whole fallout was I found out later that… because you know I was very team Candiace about that,” said Gizelle. “She didn’t appreciate it or care one way or the other. So as a friend of mine, I’m like, ‘wait a minute, I was riding for you’. And she couldn’t care less.”
The 52-year-old claimed Candiace’s lack of gratitude was “hurtful,” and it made her “reevaluate the friendship.” Gizelle shared that her friendship with the singer is worse than it’s ever been: “100 percent. Yeah. With no turnaround.”
She also addressed the drama concerning Candiace’s husband.
“Chris was doing the most,” said Gizelle. “And you know sometimes guys do things and they think it’s okay and until you say, ‘Hey this isn’t okay,’ they don’t know. But ultimately their wife needs to know, so he was informed and that went left. So you all will see that play out.”
Gizelle continued, “I can say that he just had some inappropriate behavior that might be okay for some women to interact with him that way that’s not his wife, but we find out that it’s not okay … If a woman ever says this is not okay then you just gotta eat it. You gotta accept it.”
After the interview was released, Candiace took to Twitter to share her thoughts.
“Let’s be honest. You are no one’s friend,” wrote Candiace, addressing Gizelle directly. “You come collect a check and go home to those purple walls. The small part of me that DID want to believe weren’t total garbage woke up when you decided to get creative with my husband.”
In another tweet, the star added, “And don’t insult my intelligence with this bs victimization that you pulled out of your hind parts at 5 o’clock today. It’s as believable as (absent) your storylines.”

On the same day, Candiace had an interview of her own, sharing more details behind the Chris drama.
“Gizelle is very flirty with Chris,” said Candiace on the Reality with the King podcast. “Chris flirts back with Gizelle, and this happens in front of me, and this has never given me pause, or made me feel threatened in any kind of way because Chris does not want Gizelle’s 50-year-old pu**.”
“Why would he want that when he has this?” she asked, pointing at herself. “And it also just kind of gave me, ok this is excess flirtatious energy coming from a woman who doesn’t have that at home. This is just … something that she does.”
Candiace then added, “Gizelle has a history and there is a reputation there of her being fast.”

Candiace admitted that Chris “may be attracted [to Gizelle]. She’s a beautiful woman. I’m attracted to Gizelle … but a shell is a shell, and shells often have funky insides.”
The Real Housewives of Potomac season seven premieres on Sunday, October 9, at 8/7c on Bravo.
