In the season 7 trailer of the Real Housewives of Potomac, Mia Thornton slings a martini at costar Dr. Wendy Osefo. In what seems to be an immediate response, Wendy calls her a “crater-faced b**ch.”
As the season premiere approaches, castmates are spilling more details about the drama, which is still largely a mystery. Regarding the controversial scene, Wendy recently suggested Mia was looking for a ‘moment.’
In an interview with Page Six, Mia admitted she wasn’t proud to have thrown the drink, but claimed she was provoked.
“I would just say sometimes people talk too much,” said the star, hinting at what triggered the incident.
“I do not think that anybody deserves to have a glass [thrown] in their face. I’m not perfect. I make mistakes. I have this thing with food, and it flying in the air, clearly,” said Mia, alluding to her season 6 salad throw.
“I’m going to work on tossing things. … I immediately go into this, like, ‘Oh, my gosh Mia, no one deserves to have anything thrown at them.’ Like, that’s really rude. I will own that. Self-accountability 101. It’s not the nicest thing to do to anybody.”
The star also addressed Wendy’s accusation that she was looking for a ‘moment.’
“Well, I am a ‘Housewife,’ so I don’t look for ‘Housewives’ moments, OK? For the record,” said Mia. “Everybody has their own viewpoint on situations. All I have to say is tune in, and see how it really plays out. I beg to disagree [with Wendy], but she is entitled to her opinion.”
Mia then reacted to the “crater-faced b**ch” comment.
“[That] hurts because it’s something that I can’t necessarily do anything about. You immediately start to go into this spiral of, ‘OK, how do I fix it? How do I make sure that I remain mentally strong enough to not allow someone to judge me based on my physical exterior?’”
She went on, “Because there’s so much more to Mia inside that I don’t want people to forever look at me and say, ‘Oh, you know, she has all these acne scars’” … “And what does that even matter?”
Mia then referenced her childhood, some of which was spent in the foster care system.
“Had I had proper parenting as a teenager, don’t you think someone should have taken me to the dermatologist?” she asked. “It’s funny because my child, my 14-year-old, is now starting to get acne, and I’m calling the top of the top doctors, and I’m like, ‘Get him in now. I don’t want anything showing up on his face. I don’t want him to have scars.’”
Mia believes she and Wendy may bond over their similarities in the future. “I actually think we have a lot more in common than we think we do. We have these amazing, supportive husbands. We each have three beautiful children,” she explained.
“Like, why don’t we have more playdates? I’m confused. [My daughter] Juliana is like, ‘Mommy, I want to meet my new friend.’ And I’m like, ‘You know, her mom has to get on the same page here.’”
In spite of their differences, Mia had some compliments for the professor.
“At the end of the day, we may have this love-hate toward each other. It’s like the power of the boss queens. She’s such a phenomenal female,” said Mia. “She’s a powerhouse, and she’s brilliant, if you ask me, and I think when you put two type A personalities together, there’s going to be some tensions — or some martini tosses.”
