Andy Cohen Will No Longer Be Drinking During CNN’s NYE Broadcast

Andy Cohen is backtracking on his promise to “party harder” while hosting CNN’s 2022 New Year’s Eve Live broadcast.

Andy sparked backlash last year when he and fellow host, Anderson Cooper, got a little too tipsy during their hosting duties leading Andy to go on an on-air rant dissing competitor Ryan Seacrest’s, show Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve as a “bunch of losers” and infamously telling New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, “Sayonara Sucka!”

CNN later apologized for Andy’s shenanigans and said they would be cutting back the drinking this year, leading Andy to clap back and double down on his annual boozy ritual.

“Anderson and I are going to party harder than we have ever partied before on New Year’s Eve!” Andy quipped during a November episode of his show Watch What Happens Live

He jokingly claimed to Rolling Stone earlier this week that he’s only a “visitor” when he’s working with CNN, and he can “torch the place” and then return home to Bravo the next day.

“My job is to take Anderson out of his comfort zone [and] my job is to be a party ringleader for everyone watching us on New Year’s Eve, and that is what I will continue to do,” Andy told the iconic music magazine.

He then clarified that he and Anderson were allowed to drink as CNN only required “correspondents” to abstain from imbibing,

“What [ CNN Chairman Chris Licht] said was that he didn’t want the correspondents out there drinking, but that he wanted Anderson and I to do our thing,” Andy claimed to The Hollywood Reporter.

However, mere days later, Andy confirmed to Page Six that he and Anderson would no longer be partaking in the boozy festivities while on the air.

“We aren’t drinking,” he told the outlet on December 29. “But we’re going to have a BLAST.”

A decision we’re sure Ryan is thrilled with. The American Idol host recently told Entertainment Tonight that he doesn’t believe in drinking on the job and praised CNN’s decision to cut back on the booze.

“I don’t advocate drinking when one is on the air,” he told the outlet. “I don’t know how that started as a tradition, but it’s probably a good idea [to scale back], CNN.”
