Brittany Cartwright revealed why she gave money to her then-boyfriend, Brandon Hanson, on Wednesday’s episode of The Valley in a sit-down filmed after the show.

As Lala Kent, 35, and other members of the cast, including Janet Caperna, shaded Brandon for accepting the money, and Zack Wickham shed new light on the situation, Brittany, 37, admitted that she had a “maternal instinct,” and explained why she felt it was appropriate for her to offer Brandon financial assistance as he helped her recover after her mommy makeover.

“I’m in the position where I can be like, ‘Okay, I will, like, pay you for you coming to help me and take care of me because I don’t want your kids to ever, like, need anything or suffer from any of that loss,’” Brittany shared on the June 3 episode of The Valley: After Show. “I just think I have a maternal instinct, always, since I was very young. I don’t know why … it just moved along with me, and that’s just who I am. I’m just somebody who wants to take care of people, and I don’t think that’s gonna change about me.”

Although Brittany said she would “try not to pay for guys’ stuff,” she made it clear that someone’s financial status wasn’t something she cared about.

“It’s sexy, obviously, but I’m super independent, and I always have been,” she noted.

Looking back at her needs from Brandon after her surgery, Brittany said that while she typically doesn’t put herself first, being fresh out of that surgery was one of the only times she would ask for help.

“You can call an Uber and go pick them up, especially if I gave you funds,” she reasoned.

On Wednesday’s show, Brandon had been asked to pick up Brittany’s pain medication, but he waited until it was too late in the day.

“[Brittany] was f*cking tore up. It was wild. She was fully split open. The pain meds are the lifeline right now, and you couldn’t make that a priority? That’s a big problem,” Lala said in response.

“She gave him money for other stuff, too,” Zack added.

Meanwhile, Jasmine Goode, 38, revealed that she had sent medication to Brittany, but Brandon didn’t tell her where it came from, leading her to believe it was from him.

“I was not a fan of Brandon. That was like one of the first days that I was like, ‘Mmm…,’” Kristen Doute, 43, recalled.

And Janet and Michelle Saniei, 37, agreed, with Michelle noting that a woman should never have to be responsible for a man, especially at the beginning of a relationship.

“Don’t be responsible for a man. You already have a lot to handle, and you have your child,” she told Brittany. “And even if you have extra, save it.”

“That should’ve been a test,” Michelle continued. “If he really wants to be with you and likes you, either one, understand that you have to work and explain that, or take the time and don’t go to work but don’t take any money from somebody.”

“I just want to see her with somebody who can take care of themselves … I wouldn’t want to be with somebody that was willing to accept money,” Janet replied.

As for the men of the show, Tom Schwartz, 43, said that he would feel “so gross” taking money from a woman.

Then, after Jason Caperna, 42, said he didn’t want to judge Brandon “too harshly,” noting that he was not in a financial situation where he would need to take a woman’s money who he was dating,” Tom changed his tune.

“As a father, if every shift counts and you gotta put food on the table … I feel bad for judging,” he admitted.

The Valley season three airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
