Briana Culberson‘s husband, Ryan Culberson, released a couple of statements on Instagram after her brother, Michael Wolfsmith, was seen telling their mother, Vicki Gunvalson, that he and Briana hadn’t seen one another in eight years on a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County.
After Michael, 41, admitted that he had not only not seen Briana, 39, in several years, but had also only met “two of her [four] kids,” later suggesting on social media that Ryan, 42, was the reason behind their estrangement, Ryan took to his Instagram page to defend himself — and his past.
“No one can use my past against me. I’ll sit at the table, look you in the eye, and tell my story from beginning to end — no edits, no filters,” Ryan began in his August 12 post, which featured a timestamp of 3:33. “I own every mistake, every failure, every scar I picked up along the way.”
“I’ve already faced the darkest chapters of my life and made peace with them. They don’t control me anymore — they built me,” he continued. “What’s tea for you is my testimony. What you whisper about, I’ve already survived! And what tried to break me is the very proof that [I’m] still standing. I am not ashamed of where I’ve been. I’m proud of how I made it out.”
Following the RHOC episode in which Michael chatted with Vicki, he responded to a fan on Instagram who wondered why he and Briana were no longer close.
“I’ve never been invited [to her home in Oklahoma], and she doesn’t visit [California]. I was living in Hawaii and now Spain,” Michael replied before mentioning Ryan. “A couple years ago I said I wanted to visit when I was fairly close to Oklahoma, and she said it wasn’t a good time because of her husband who I don’t get along with very well.”
Ryan also shared an additional statement on August 8, which he described as a “friendly reminder.”
“DON’T LET WHACK PEOPLE MESS WITH YOUR DOPE ENERGY!” he proclaimed. “Protect your energy like your future depends on it. STAY BLESSED!”

Amid the drama surrounding Michael and Briana’s relationship, Vicki explained why her daughter was no longer willing to appear on RHOC.
“My daughter wants nothing to do with [the show],” she told The Hollywood Reporter last week. “[In a past season] her husband just got back from the Marine Corps — six tours overseas — and he’s got some PTSD, and they really showed a bad light of him.”
“What the show did to their family was not good,” she added.
