Craig Conover is speaking out after fans compared him to Wolverine and Phil Miller from The Last Man on Earth following the release of a very scruffy photo of him posing with fans.

After the image of the 37-year-old Southern Charm star was shared on Instagram, leading many to wonder what was going on with the longtime reality star and pillow powerhouse, Craig took to his Story to explain why he was looking so much different than fans are used to.

After Bravo Boo on Instagram asked, “What’s going on with Craig,” commenters weighed in on his disheveled demeanor.

“Well, he was just here in Australia … we have that [effect] on people,” one person joked.

Another said Craig looked “like the dude from Amityville Horror,” seemingly referencing Ronald Joseph “Butch” DeFeo Jr.

“He is giving me Forrest Gump,” said another, as a fourth asked, “What in the Wolverine?”

As fans raised suspicions about Craig’s new look, he took to his Instagram Story, where he confirmed that he was simply in character.

“I’m filming a project. We just wrapped. It’s 12-hour days when you do scripted stuff. I thought [it] was very clear that I don’t look like that. Maybe I do. Anyway, even if I did look like that, we’re here to entertain y’all. Life is short. Have fun. Smile more. Laugh. And yes, I’m on a scripted project. That’s my character that I’m playing at some point,” he explained.

Craig also said that he “can’t reveal too much.” However, last week, he shared a clip from production on Caroline Fletcher, confirming his character was named “Marcus.”

As Southern Charm fans may have seen, it was revealed in early August that Craig had landed a role in an indie dramedy titled Caroline Fletcher, alongside Schitt’s Creek star Chris Elliott, 66, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Caroline Aaron, 74.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Caroline Fletcher “follows an 11-year-old girl who has learned to survive a working-class upbringing and crime the only way she knows how — by conning her way through it. When her mother is arrested and the town bully threatens what remains of her family, she launches the biggest scheme of her young life.”

The film is expected to be released sometime in 2027.
