Kandi Burruss appeared on Sunday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, where she opened up about her split from Todd Tucker.
As she also shared how Mama Joyce Jones, 76, has been handling the breakup, reacted to Porsha Williams, 44, Phaedra Parks, 52, and Kim Zolciak, 47, supporting her Wifetime Achievement Award, and spoke of Porsha’s falling out with Shamea Morton, 43, the 49-year-old Real Housewives of Atlanta alum teased season 17, confirmed a major misconception about her prenup with Todd, 52, and more.
“There was a specific situation that happened. [But] I’m not talking about it on Watch What Happens,” Kandi confirmed of her and Todd’s split on the February 22 episode of WWHL. “In July, is when I was like, ‘Oh, oh, yeah, nah. I can’t do this anymore.’”
According to Kandi, she and Todd have had some tense moments amid their divorce. However, overall, they are doing their best to remain civil.
“We’ve been going back and forth through the whole divorce thing, so of course, sometimes our conversations can [get] a little intense, but for the most part, even if we argue, we still try to be nice to each other,” she noted. “We’re coparenting. Last night, we went to my son’s basketball game, so we were there sitting right next to each other. I’m sure people was like, ‘eh,’ but I feel like once we’re done with this, I really feel that we will be able to be great co-parents because our ultimate goal is to make sure that all of our kids are happy and that they don’t feel the brunt of our drama.”
As for the drama surrounding their supposed prenup battle, Kandi clarified that Todd was not contesting the agreement.
“They threatened to contest it, so it said that if we do not come to terms, that they feel that they have a way to contest it,” she explained. “So I think that is the misunderstanding of the internet is like, we never actually had conversations about it being anything other than, well, you know what I’m saying, so it’s like, he’s like, ‘Well I don’t want people feel that I’m…’ [And] I’m like, ‘Well, people feel that way cuz your lawyer put in there that…’’
Moving on to Mama Joyce, Kandi said she’d been “pretty calm,” despite her past distaste for Todd.
“She’s been trying not to say too much, not to get into it. Sometimes, the internet conversations, what people, their opinions about our divorce can get in her head, and she’s like, ‘Well, they said that you need…’ ‘Ma! I don’t care. They don’t really know what’s happening between he and I,’” she shared.
Regarding her aunts, Kandi said they’ve been “very supportive.”
“Aunt Bertha’s going through dementia, so … But Aunt Nora’s been very supportive. Overall, Todd and I are still co-parents, so he still sees the family when we do the kids’ parties and stuff like that, so everybody’s still gonna be friendly and loving,” she revealed.
Then asked about Porsha and Phaedra, with whom she previously feuded due to drugging allegations, being supportive as she received her Wifetime Achievement Award, Kandi said that she didn’t interact much with the other housewives and only attended the awards event.
“I was gambling the whole weekend. I did [win]. I was winning, a few thousand one night, a few thousand the other. I was hitting the craps table, I was having a good time. [But] Porsha, I did talk to her a couple [of times] that night, and then you know throughout the time, I still talk to Porsha sometimes because we both have kids, so we hit each other up for the kids’ parties and stuff,” she stated.
Kandi also reacted to Kim tearing up amid her speech.
“We haven’t talked since then, but I would have to say, honestly, I was touched. I was shocked that she was so emotional, but at the same time, we all put into this franchise, and I felt like it was really cool that everybody could share that moment,” she admitted.
While Kandi seemed to get shady when asked about Dennis McKinley, 44, and his reputation in the music industry, she made it clear that she wasn’t slamming him as she applauded his work on Drew Sidora‘s album.
“I didn’t really know he was in the music industry before — no, it’s not being shady — before Drew, but what I will say, he did a great job with Drew’s album,” she noted as she refused to name the better singer between Drew, 40, and Shamea.
“I love both of their voices. I do … I’m not lying though, I do, [but] I feel like their voices are totally different .. Shamea’s single was dope,” she shared.
As the episode continued, Kandi was asked who she supported more financially, Mama Joyce or Riley Burruss, 23.
“Oh, that’s easy: Riley,” she replied. “Riley runs through my pockets. Oh my god, you know, she lives in New York in a two-bedroom in a nice building. She does not have a roommate. That girl … she still says she wants to be a lawyer; she needs to be because the way she argues her points. She was like, ‘Mom, it’s for my mental health.’ I promise you, it was a whole thing.”
Then, after saying that she would start dating “as soon as this divorce goes,” admitting that “people are calling,” Kandi revealed her favorite part of starring on Broadway’s & Juliet.
“Every day the whole show feels like joy, so to be going through a time in my life where it’s really like crazy, it’s like, every day I have to dance and sing and have fun, and we sing hits from the top to the bottom so the whole audience is like into it the whole time,” she explained.
Later, on the WWHL: After Show, Kandi admitted she was “not surprised” by Porsha’s falling out with Shamea.
“I was not surprised. And that’s because any time you have any moments in your friendship that have been kind of shaky, being on a reality show is just gonna make it that much worse. You’re not really able to make up without discussing things with other people in front of the world, and then that makes it more intense,” she explained.
As for whether she believed a reconciliation was in their future, Kandi declared, “No.”
“I’ve heard some of the things y’all got coming on this next season, and eh, way worse!” she teased.
Kandi Burruss was featured in a full-time role on The Real Housewives of Atlanta from season two to season 13.
