An insider is speaking out, sharing new details about Angie Katsanevas‘ reported split from husband Shawn Trujillo.
Following news that the couple had split after 27 years of marriage, a source claims it was the 52-year-old Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star who decided to end her relationship with Shawn, 53, earlier this year, and also explains why Angie and Shawn kept the news of their breakup private.
“Angie is the one who called it off,” an insider told The U.S. Sun on July 20. “They separated months ago but have been trying to maintain a happier public image for both their business and the show. They didn’t want to hide anything or come off as liars, but they don’t know how to publicly navigate the demise of a 30-year-long relationship.”
“So that’s why it’s been under wraps,” the source continued. “The decision wasn’t made lightly, and most importantly, they want to protect their daughter [15-year-old Elektra] and their business.”
As for the allegations of cheating, the insider insisted, “There is no merit to any affair.”
They also said that Angie’s decision to leave her marriage was done after careful consideration, and they added that she and Shawn still have “so much love” for one another.
Following the news of Angie and Shawn’s reported split, Angie’s former RHOSLC castmate, Monica Garcia, 43, appeared on the July 20 episode of Carlos King‘s podcast, Reality with The King, where she discussed the potential reason behind the breakup.
“I did hear that Shawn may allegedly feel that Angie K. has changed once she became a Housewife,” Carlos began.
“That’s exactly what I heard, too,” Monica replied. “That she has become … Intolerable? Insufferable? Difficult?… out of touch with reality? All consumed by the show, maybe?”
Monica then signaled claims made by Mary Cosby, 53, on the series.
“She said, ‘You’re letting this sh*t get to your head.’ Mary said it. Mary has been telling her season after season, ‘You’re changing, you’re changing, you’re changing, you’re changing. I don’t recognize you. I don’t know this one. Where’s my old Angie friend?’”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season seven is expected to premiere on Bravo sometime in the coming months.
