Mauricio Umansky spoke of potentially running for mayor of Los Angeles on a morning show on Monday.
After hinting at the idea during a past appearance on Tomi Lahren‘s podcast in August, the 56-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and real estate mogul teased the potential timeline of his political efforts while also revealing how Kyle Richards, 57, reacted to their daughter Alexia Umansky, 30, joining him on Special Forces.
“I am considering running for mayor of Los Angeles,” Mauricio announced on the September 28 episode of Live! With Kelly & Mark.
According to Mauricio, he is “a registered independent” and hopes to bring business back to L.A.
“We need to take care of our people. There’s so many things to do in Los Angeles. It’s one of the greatest cities in the world, without question. It’s a huge metropolis, and we need to take care of it,” he explained. “We need to take care of crime. We need to take care of the homeless. We need to do all of that stuff, but we need to bring business back, and I think if we’re able to bring business back, we’re able to, you know, do the rest.”
As for when he would run, Mauricio shared, “If I do it, it would have to be for the next race, and start prepping for it and start prepping my business [The Agency] for it, start prepping my life for it, and then you run.”

Moving on to his and Alexia’s roles on Special Forces, which sees celebrities competing in a series of military-style challenges, Mauricio admitted they were “crazy” for signing on.
“We were both asked to do it. I was asked first. I said ‘yes’ right away, and then somebody came up with the idea of, like, let’s have Alexia do it, and I was like, ‘Yes.’ So I quickly called her up because I wanted to like, sell her on it. [But] it didn’t take a lot of selling. She was all in right away,” he shared, noting that Alexia, along with Portia Umansky, 18, were always on board with adventures.
“She’s like my boy,” he added of Alexia.
Regarding estranged wife Kyle‘s response, Mauricio revealed she thought he “was nuts.”
“She thought that I was putting our daughter at risk. She thought I was out of my mind. But she was also super supportive to Alexia once Alexia told her I was doing it, and she was locked in. She was super supportive to her and gave her good mindset, even though in the background she was not happy about it,” he explained.
Also on the show, Mauricio revealed what he learned about Alexia amid their journey.
“My daughter grew up in a wealthy environment. She grew up in a privileged home … but I can tell you that to watch her accomplish some of these tasks, some of these fears — heights, claustrophobia, water, animals, snakes, King Cobras — the conditions were absolutely horrible. I mean, where you went to the bathroom was a piece of plywood on top of a — splintery plywood — on top of a bucket. It was nasty, okay?”
He continued, “And to watch her resilience, her grit, her strength, and to watch her do these things, I mean, you’ll see in some of these things she accomplishes, she comes back from the task, from the challenge, and she has a huge smile on her face while at the same time bawling and crying. And it was the most beautiful thing to watch. It was amazing,” he gushed. “As a father, if any father gets an opportunity to do this, do it.”
