It’s been two days now since the sad and sudden death of the Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel’s on-again-off-again boyfriend, Dennis Shields, from an apparent drug overdose at the age of 51.
And now, his estranged wife is speaking out about him and the special bond they shared. Also below, Dennis opened up about his relationship with Bethenny just days before his passing.
On Saturday, Jill Schwartzberg Shields, Dennis’s wife of 26 years and mother of his four children, took to her Instagram page to share a touching tribute to him.
“To the love of my life – Dennis-I will miss you every day. Forever your legacy will live on in our children and our future grandchildren. Your intelligence, humor and of course your good looks will forever be engrained in our family!” wrote Jill.
She added, “Even though we did not live together, you still remained my best friend and my husband. Not many people were able to grasp our situation but it worked for us. We spoke everyday. I will miss that! I love you my dear husband. I am hoping up in heaven you are running around playing basketball and tennis without any back pain. See you again in forty years xo.”

And during last Sunday’s broadcast of “Listen Up Show with Mitchell Chadrow,“ a business podcast, Dennis opened up about his complicated relationship with Bethenny, heaping praises on her and revealing they were still together as of July.
“About four weeks ago we were still together,” he shared, before going on to joke about the fact that they break up often, stating he usually googles Bethenny because he was “checking to see how our relationship was doing.”
“She’s great. She’s a great mother… She is terrific in every way,” Dennis stated. “But we do break up a lot.”
According to TMZ, Dennis overdosed on oxycodone. He reportedly awoke from his sleep feeling sick and asked his maid to purchase him Narcan (a drug which can reverse the effects of opioid overdoses). He however became unconscious and remained unresponsive as the drug was finally administered to him.
