As production was suspended on the new season of the RHONJ, amid the coronavirus pandemic, the 49-year-old reality star elected to have a tummy tuck and liposuction — and didn’t tell her beau… knowing he wouldn’t be too happy about the procedure. In a new interview, she opens up about her surgery and the impact it had on her relationship.
“I found the most amazing doctor in Maryland, Dr. Joseph Michaels,” Dolores told Us Weekly on their Hot Hollywood podcast. “I’ve been up and down with my weight and my elasticity on my skin has gotten shot and well, I’m not going to kill myself over this because it is what it is, but I eat McDonald’s, I didn’t work out for a long time and whatever. I looked at his Instagram and I almost fell off my couch. It was insane. His before and afters are like nothing I’ve ever seen almost to the fact I thought it was fake!”
Dolores, who has shared her weight struggles in the past, noted she was Dr. Michaels’ first appointment since the practice re-opened amid the pandemic. Her recovery from the procedure, unfortunately, hasn’t been the easiest.
”It’s not easy and I’m tough” she stated. “It’s not my first rodeo with plastic surgery, but this one was a little rough.”
The RHONJ regular added how the doctor “did a little fat transfer” during the process, taking some fat from her back to create a “rounder” derrière.
While the mother of two was especially happy with her results, her boyfriend, David, unfortunately wasn’t thrilled.
“Dr. David wants to break up with me because I lied to him about doing this. He is so not into elective procedures,” she revealed. “He’s just so against it. The night before I was leaving, I told him I’m going to Virginia tomorrow. He goes, ‘Oh, for work?’ I said, ‘No, for a tummy tuck.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, right.’ I drove, I was gone the next morning.”
Although cameras didn’t follow her to Maryland for the procedure, her post-recovery process is likely to be seen by RHONJ fans as the show’s set to resume filming later this month.
“Hopefully. We don’t know [for sure],” she said. “We were two weeks into filming and we took a brief break because Teresa [Giudice]‘s father was very ill and then we went back to work and then two days later the stay-at-home order was mandated.”
