The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes has opened up about the actions of her former costars and her friend Cynthia Bailey following the passing of her husband Gregg Leakes.
Sadly, Gregg lost his battle to colon cancer on September 1 at the age of 66, leaving behind his family and his wife Nene. Recently, though, Nene has candidly disclosed her hurt feelings about what she felt was a lack of support from Cynthia.
There have certainly been some ups and downs between the two reality TV stars — and every single Housewife for that matter — but tensions will always run higher when there is a tragic event and grief gets involved. In a new interview, Nene disclosed that there seemed to be a lack of concern from her on and off-screen friend, Cynthia. Nene felt that it was unfortunate that she didn’t express her condolences the way some of the other Housewives did.
Nene did relate the housewives to a ‘dysfunctional family,’ which seems to give a little light on the situation, having the knowledge that she still views them all as something of a family. That being said, Cynthia’s actions clearly hurt her because, apparently, she wasn’t even around until a week after her husband’s passing.
According to Nene, Cynthia didn’t attend some of the events after Gregg’s passing. “[Cynthia] didn’t even come to the repast. She did come like a week later after everything was done,” said Nene to V-103 Atlanta.
Previously, Cynthia told Page Six, “I’m really glad, honestly looking back, that I didn’t make it to the actual celebration because I think if I had, I never would have had the moment that I got to have with her just hanging out with her at her lounge.” So, it seems that Cynthia was merely giving her space to grieve and wanted a more intimate time to be around Nene, but what is clear is that there is definitely a misunderstanding and a potential rift in their friendship.
Nene also commented on all of the RHOA stars pooling money to buy her a shared bouquet rather than individual ones, which seemed to upset her.
“Actually I was surprised because the first set of flowers I got was a bouquet from like all the Housewives, like they went in together,” NeNe shared. “I’m like, ‘Why do y’all need to go in together and buy some damn flowers? If all y’all work … you can spend your own $200.’ That’s the way I’ve always been.”
Despite all of the damaged emotions involved, one can hope that now that Nene has openly discussed these issues, the ladies of Atlanta can find some resolve among themselves.
