Former Real Housewives of New York City “friend of” alum Elyse Slaine has filed for divorce from her husband of nearly four years, Dr. Reinhold Gelbert.
RHONY fans will remember Elyse from season 12 as a friend of Ramona Singer’s, though I use that term very loosely. The two had a falling out by the end of Elyse’s inaugural and only season with Ramona not even speaking to Elyse during the season finale. This led to Elyse physically trying to restrain Ramona from leaving Leah McSweeney’s Married to the Mob 15th-anniversary party so they could hash things out. Ramona ended up leaving anyway, calling Elyse “not a girl’s girl.” Par for the course.
But I digress, and in a statement given to Page Six, Elyse stated, “Reinhold and I continue to care deeply for one another and remain close friends in what will be a very amicable divorce.” No other details for the reason for the divorce were given.
Elyse and Reinhold were wed back in 2018, but Reinhold hasn’t been featured on Elyse’s social media since 2020 when she posted a since-deleted anniversary post that read, “Happy 2nd Anniversary to my best friend, my love, and the man who taught me to make every day count!”
So, it seems their marriage had been in turmoil for some time before this divorce announcement.
Though Elyse was prominently featured on RHONY, neither her marriage nor Reinhold was ever featured.
Since Elyse’s season, the New York franchise has been mired in turmoil over racist claims and low ratings as fans have turned on the show for not being what it used to be.
Bravo and Andy Cohen announced earlier this year that the show would be divided into two seasons. One will feature an all-new cast and one will feature legacy cast members.
No announcements have been made regarding casting for either show as of yet.
