RHOC's Kelly Dodd Reveals Husband Rick is in ER After "Horrible Accident" as He Says He's "Lucky to Be Alive," Reacts to Criticism for Being on Instagram

Kelly Dodd took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to reveal husband Rick Leventhal was in the emergency room after being involved in a “horrible accident.”

After the former Real Housewives of Orange County cast member traveled to Aspen with friends, she shared a video of the aftermath of Rick’s wreck and requested prayers as Rick admitted he was “lucky to be alive” and reacted to a follower who said he’s “not that hurt” after he shared a video from his hospital bed.

“There will be no smash tomorrow on [YouTube’s The Rick and Kelly Show]. My husband got in a horrible car accident. He is in the ER.. please say prayers for [Rick Leventhal],” Kelly wrote in the caption of a January 10 post on Instagram, which featured a photo of Rick’s totaled Mercedes-Benz and a video of the scene.

Following Kelly’s posting, Rick offered a response in a comment.

“Honestly I’m lucky to be alive,” he told his wife. “Scariest moments of my life. This makes everything even more meaningful.”

A number of Bravolebrities also weighed in with comments, including Kelly’s former RHOC co-star, Vicki Gunvalson, who shared not one but two messages.

“Oh no! Thank God he’s ok. Praying for a speedy recovery,” she wrote in her first.

“So scary what happened to Rick,” she added in a second. “Thank God he wasn’t hurt more than this. Praying he will recover soon. Keep us posted.”

“Lifting him up sweet friend,” said Brandi Redmond.

“Omg no,” wrote Mercedes “MJ” Javid. “I’m so sorry and sending prayers.”

“Omg I’m so sorry Kelly … Praying,” added Kary Brittingham.

Meanwhile, on Rick’s own page, he shared a video of himself laying in his hospital bed, revealing that he suffered four broken ribs and a fractured bone in his foot, and thanking those who’ve reached out.

“So lucky to be alive & grateful for the well wishes & care I’m getting. [Four] broken ribs, fractured bone right foot, wounded pride. So far that’s it,” he stated.

And in the video, he shared with his online audience that he hydroplaned on the I-10 outside of Palm Desert.

“Just hit what felt like a patch of ice. It was water or whatever. The road was slick. I lost control [and] slammed into the wall, hard. Started spinning around across lanes of traffic and slammed right into the back of a tractor trailer.”

He also revealed that his window busted and both airbags deployed before the trucker helped him out.

After sharing what happened with his fans and followers, Rick was met with some criticism from a fan who pointed out that his injuries were likely not very severe, as he was already back on social media.

“He’s on Instagram so he’s not that hurt,” she told Margaret Josephs.

And after a fan defended him, noting that people are able to use their phones when hurt, Rick clapped back.

“Are you saying that to everyone who comments? Should I not let people know how I’m doing? Because I’m ‘not that hurt?'” he asked.
