Britani Bateman alleged that someone had stolen her engagement ring after Little House on the Prairie actress Melissa Gilbert detailed an odd encounter she had with the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member and her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Jared Osmond, on Instagram.
After Melissa, 61, went public with her run-in with Britani, 54, claiming the singer and reality star seemed like she wasn’t “in her body” before suddenly darting away and leaving Jared, 54, behind, Britani explained why she seemed to be so manic in a comment, signaling the loss of her ring.
“So the hubby and I had an interesting encounter with a couple of [Bravolebrities] the other day,” Melissa began in her December 10 post, declaring herself a fan of the Real Housewives franchise.
According to Melissa, her encounter with Britani occurred as she and her husband, Tim Busfied, walked by The Plaza Hotel in New York City.
“I said to [Tim Busfield] ‘We just walked by [Britani Bateman] and Jared Osmond from RHOSLC.’ He grabbed my arm, turned me around, and led me back to them. I’m shy. I would never have done it alone. Tim introduced me saying, ‘This is my wife, Melissa Gilbert from Little House on the Prairie.‘ I laughed and said to them ‘Big fan. Love your show,'” Melissa explained.
She then recalled Britani’s odd behavior.
“Britani seemed a bit harried, like she wasn’t really in her body as she thanked me for being a fan, and rightly so, Jared had lost his phone and a random woman, currently standing in front of the Plaza had found it. Britani, again, thanked me for being a fan while Jared lamented being made to be the villain of the show. I said, I understood. I’d done my time on a reality show years before,” she continued.
At that point, Melissa shared that Britani did an “Irish Goodbye..just peaced out completely.”
“She ran to a cab..leaving the three of us standing there while Jared continued to tell us about all the things he said that didn’t make it on the air……then Jared did a version of the same Irish Goodbye to catch up with her and poof, they were gone. We then continued on our merry way. I’m pretty sure they had no idea who they were talking to,” she added.

After seeing the post on Instagram, Britani offered an explanation.
“Oh my goodness are you kidding me right now???? I can’t believe the opportunity missed in this encounter. I’m such a huge fan of yours. Dang!!!!” she wrote.
“Someone had literally just stolen my engagement ring out of my purse, is what was happening. I was absolutely freaked out and had a lead on it which is why I hailed a cab without even saying goodbye. Jared was freaked out as well, but it sounds like he felt more social than I did,” she continued.
In closing, Britani told Melissa she loved her and suggested a future meeting.
“Next time I’m in town let’s go grab a coffee,” she stated.
Speaking to Stylecaster days ago, Britani explained why she was carrying around her engagement ring.
“[Jared] gave it back to me, and he’s gonna put it on at some point. But I’m keeping it with me just so that he can’t take it back. Yep, that’s right. And I’m not putting it on my own finger because he has to do it himself,” she declared.
