Dorit Kemsley explained what happened to her swimwear line, Beverly Beach by Dorit, during an interview last week.
As she promoted the upcoming release of her new book, Unburdened, revealed where she stood with Boy George, 64, amid her divorce from Paul “PK” Kemsley, 58, and looked back on having to relive her home invasion, the 49-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star discussed her past engagements, her kids, dating, and more.
“[I] launched Beverly Beach By Dorit and then COVID happened and I had all of my factories in Los Angeles … and everything was shut for an extended period of time and when that happens, the fashion year, you sort of follow a cycle, and so everything had to be pushed, and when it came time for me to launch a new collection, it felt like I needed to pause, regroup, and then decide whether I want to continue with swimwear or resort wear or change it entirely,” Dorit explained during a May 21 interview with Extra TV. “And then the home invasion happened, and I really needed to take a step back.”
Regarding her status with Boy George, Dorit confirmed, “He’s firmly in PK’s camp,” before sharing her hopes for their future.
“I actually thought, naively perhaps, that George would be one of those that would be able to have a relationship with both of us, and I was wrong. And that’s okay. It is what it is, however, when PK and I are good, or we are okay, suddenly George is okay. So I think it will very much depend on the relationship I have with PK, and that will dictate my relationship with George,” she stated.
Looking back on writing her book, Dorit admitted it was hard revisiting her home robbery.
“It happened, and I went to film the next day. So that was already challenging. Not necessarily filming, because I was white-knuckling it through the season, but then six months later, when you’re watching it and reliving it, it’s like a tidal wave. So, obviously, going into great detail in the book, I knew that it was gonna be difficult, and it was one of the last chapters I actually wrote because I almost felt like I needed to wait,” she revealed.
“I knew I needed to have the strength and the capacity to do it. So it was not easy, but … it really felt good when I finished the chapter to get it all out and put it in the book,” added Dorit.
As for what will surprise readers of her upcoming publication, Dorit said, “There will be some people that will be surprised about certain things with regards to [RHOBH], some people with regards to PK, [and] some with regards to growing up.”
After stating that she was “engaged twice to two great men, but just never wanted to take the plunge” before meeting PK, Dorit confirmed her kids are doing “great,” despite their breakup.
“They’re so good … They transitioned into regular school, and they love it. They’re having such a great time. They have loads of friends. It was really great cuz it felt like the right time, and the fact that they’re thriving and they’re happy is everything to me,” Dorit gushed.
Moving on to dating, Dorit said she’d hadn’t yet started.
“But I would like to,” she admitted. “It’s been 15 years since I’ve been out there dating, so I don’t know, I think things have to happen organically, and I think that’s the way it will happen … I need to have chemistry. It’s all about chemistry for me … I’ve never been super attracted to the best looking guy … it doesn’t have to be the best looking guy in the room.”
“I got hung up on age, and then I met this beautiful new friend … Rachel Zoe. And she does not subscribe to that notion that it has to be a certain age,” she continued. “She’s having a lot of fun. Good for you. And she is living her best life. That in and of itself is something very inspiring.”
Also during the interview, Dorit explained why now was the right time to share her story.
“I’ve been on television for nine years, and it just felt, with everything that’s happened in the last few years, especially, I feel like I’ve got something to say, and I also feel like it’s a good time for me to tell my story in my voice,” she stated. “We’re an ensemble cast [on RHOBH]. You don’t get the full picture of each individual … It felt like I owe it to [the audience] and it felt like the right time for me to really get it out and put it on paper.”
Unburdened is set to be released on June 2.
