Ciara Miller clapped back at claims of colorism on Love Island USA after Saturday’s episode of Aftersun, which she co-hosts with Tefi Pessoa.
Following the exit of Alannah Keyser, 21, who left the series after she was caught seemingly using a racial slur in a social media video, and amid drama between KC Chandler, 24, and Aniya Harvey, 23, the 30-year-old Summer House star fired back at the idea that she was blind to colorism, insisted she had tried to see both sides of the dynamic between KC and Aniya, and pointed to editing for a lack of context.
“You guys need to f*cking relax,” Ciara wrote on Threads on June 27. “We film for 6 hours. Perspectives get left on the cutting room floor. I could psychoanalyze all of [Love Island] for hours and write a dissertation on black people/colorism on reality TV. Don’t talk to me about how I ‘fail’ to see any person of color’s perspective or how I need more ’empathy.’ I’ve quite literally lived it.”
In another message, she reacted to a viewer who suggested that her defense of KC, who chose to couple up with Tierra “Titi” Davis, 25, after previously being with Aniya, was “not the vibe [they] signed up for.”
“Lololololol begrudgingly trying to see both sides,” Ciara replied.
A second person on Threads signaled Ciara’s love triangle with West Wilson, 31, and Amanda Batula, 34, as they hinted that she should’ve taken Aniya’s side.
“Ciara’s take on Aniya is interesting coming from the same girl on Summer House whose drama always seemed to involve a man telling her one thing while telling someone else another, not being truthful about his intentions, and lowkey holding a grudge against her,” they wrote.
“You think I don’t understand Aniya’s predicament?!?!? Be so fucking for real. We film for 6 hours. There’s a lot of perspectives that get left on the cutting room floor. Spare me,” Ciara fired back.
