Shamea Morton responded to the claim that she’s a victim of colorism from her Real Housewives of Atlanta castmates. The star said she’s “not a victim,” but she’s glad fans are now seeing things “from my POV.”
In the new season, fans have accused some co-stars of going after Shamea for no reason. In the latest episode, she was accused of cheating on her husband (based on little evidence). But when Shamea responded to defend herself, several castmates said she was being ‘defensive.’
On The Neighborhood Talk, Shamea was asked if colorism could be the reason castmates are treating her badly.
“If you treat people with kindness, it should be reciprocated,” she said, via @therealityrundown on Instagram. “And oftentimes, we don’t see that. I mean, heck. I’ve been taking it on the chin from fans since I joined the cast. So it’s just nice to finally see that people are seeing things from my POV.”
“‘Cause you know, there’s always your truth, their truth, and then the real truth,” she continued. “I’m just happy that people are even opening up their eyes to actually see and try to understand it. Cause I was like … what is happening? Why is it happening?”
Shamea said she asked herself, “Why me?”
“I’m not a victim, but it’s like, ‘Well, okay. Why not me?'” said Shamea, seemingly indicating that her co-stars chose to go after her. “… I just hope at some point we can get to a space where we’re all one cohesive group and there’s no division. That’s my goal.”
In the recent scene, Angela Oakley insinuated that her neighbor, Ashley Byrom, claimed Shamea cheated with Ashley’s husband. But after the episode came out, Ashley accused Angela of lying.
“Imagine calling me to fish for information about another woman, getting absolutely nothing but a neutral response… then turning around and making MY husband the centerpiece of a story you created in your own head,” said Ashley at the time on Instagram, referring to Angela. “Let’s be serious. Out of everything in this world, why would I ever give someone permission to put my husband in the middle of an allegation like that? That doesn’t even make sense.”
“I’m just glad Shamea brought it to light before she had the chance to fully run with that made-up narrative,” she went on.
