Heather Dubrow did not remain on good terms with Shannon Beador throughout production on The Real Housewives of Orange County season 20.
While reflecting on the filming of the currently airing season, which featured Vicki Gunvalson‘s return and the arrival of newbie Carmella Garcia, 44, and dishing on her family, including her mom, Carole Kent, 84, her husband, Dr. Terry Dubrow, 67, and her kids, Heather, 57, spoke of a low moment with Shannon, 62, and revealed how season 20 differed from season 19.
“Sometimes when we go on a vacation … there’s always a moment where we’re choosing rooms, and it becomes Lord of the Flies. It’s that,” Heather confirmed of what led to her spat with Shannon during an August 10 interview with Extra TV.
Still, she said that, overall, season 20 was much lighter than season 19.
“Things got very dark last year, and I think, not just us, but the audience has really been craving what [RHOC] always has been, which is very funny, [and] really tight relationships,” she explained. “Even though we have issues with each other at times, there’s still a lot of love there, and I feel like season 20 really embodies that.”
After confirming that she was glad to see Vicki back, and sharing that they had a “few moments” of their own in which they went to bat, Heather weighed in on Vicki’s drama with Carmella, which included Carmella telling the OG that “everyone has an expiration date.”
When asked how Vicki took the dig, Heather said, “Not well,” before praising her new co-star.
“I mean, for her to give it back to Vicki was a big deal, but I would say, for Carmella, she has all the makings of the perfect housewife. She’s beautiful. She’s wealthy. She’s got a gorgeous family. And she’s not afraid to say anything,” she noted.
Also joining the show for season 20 was Heather’s mom, Carole, who moved to New York City from the East Coast.
“She’s fabulous, and she has very strong opinions on things. She enjoys the camera. She’s a lot like my husband,” Heather explained, naming Shannon as her mom’s favorite cast member.
Moving on to Terry, Heather said he was “so happy” at their high-rise condo in Los Angeles.
“We’re almost empty nesters, not quite yet, but our youngest is about to drive, so that’s a freedom in itself. And we’re just, we’re having fun,” she shared. “I feel like this next chapter of life, we are just saying yes to things, whether it’s vacations or work projects we think are really fun or just anything. We’re having a good time.”
As for her kids, Heather revealed that her twins, Max and Nick, just graduated from college.
“My son is sort of following in our footsteps in a few different ways, and my daughter is off to law school, and then Kat’s gonna be a sophomore at Yale this year. And then my youngest is gonna be a sophomore in high school,” she stated. “They’re good kids … I learn a lot from them.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County season 20 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
