Steven McBee Jr. revealed whether he was open to returning to his family’s reality show, Bravo’s The McBee Dynasty, while appearing on a podcast on Monday.
As he also admitted to struggling with anger issues, dished on his dad Steve McBee Sr.‘s upcoming release from prison, and explained how his breakup drama with Allie Eklund, 29, gave him a newfound respect for fellow ex-girlfriend Calah Jackson, 33, Steven shared his thoughts on filming another season, which both he and mom Kristi McBee, 52, previously hinted they wouldn’t do.
“I’m really bad about speaking in superlatives. So always and never, right? And I need to get away from that,” Steven explained on the August 24 episode of the Roxanne and Shantel Podcast. “My family inherently does the same, so we’re ‘never doing that again.’ Like, yeah, you know, it’s in the height of the emotional state I’m in, the height of some of the online backlash.”
Although Steven said he had a generally positive experience working on the show, and applauded the network and production company for being “extremely good” to him and caring about his family, Steven added that both he and his family were struggling with the backlash they faced amid season three.
“We’re all struggling. My mom is struggling. I’m struggling. This is not easy. We’re not used to this life,” he noted.
That said, Steven did take responsibility for some of the backlash they’d received, especially in regard to his relationship with Allie, who he accused of cheating on him at Stagecoach.
“A lot of this online backlash is my own doing, not only from the mistake I made, obviously, in the way that I handled the post-Stagecoach reaction, but also just like bringing a girl on to the show that I hardly knew and then, you know, trying to marry her and bring her into the businesses a month after knowing her,” Steven reasoned.
As he looked ahead, Steven confirmed he would be open to season four.
“I do want the chance to show people that I’m not this horrible person,” he stated. “I would love to have the opportunity to showcase, you know, my family and I. Yes, there’s a lot of drama in our lives, but 95% of the time we are as thick as can be.”
In the meantime, Steven said he was working on himself.
“I have anger issues. I’d be the first to admit that. And I’m working. It was not something that I was unaware of at the time of the Stagecoach incident. I’d been in therapy. I still am in therapy. I still am working on myself. So I understand that I have some flaws that I absolutely need to work on,” he confessed.
He’s also awaiting his father’s return home.
“We cannot wait to have him back here. I think prison and that time to do nothing but just read and reflect is going to be the best thing that’s ever happened to him,” Steven said. “I hope that the way that he talks now, the way that he acts now, and the things that he says, I hope they stick whenever he gets out of prison. And if so, I think there’s a lot of good things to come.”
“I think it’s going to be a really, really good thing for our family,” he added.
He even confirmed that he and the McBee family would “entertain the idea” of filming Steve Sr.’s return.
Moving on to Calah and how his drama with Allie impacted how he felt about their breakup, Steven mentioned that while Calah had “the right to talk some smack,” she has done “very little.”
“For her to stay quiet and then also have to listen in Season 3 about how Allie is so much better than Calah, you know, that’s hard,” Steven said. “I’m going, I don’t have this platform anymore. I’m not on TV to defend myself. And listening to them talk crap about me, that’s a hard situation to be in. And she still really didn’t talk about anyone.”
“And so there is a newfound respect for Calah for that,” he continued. “And I do appreciate that because, again, I absolutely deserved to have some crap talked on me for how our relationship was and the things that I could have done better in that relationship.”
According to Steven, he and Calah had a “very toxic” relationship, and he takes “full accountability” for his flaws and playing “a huge, huge, huge part” in their breakup. So, when entering into his romance with Allie, he hoped he wouldn’t “repeat the mistakes” he made with Calah.
“I think that’s one of the reasons why I was so shocked at the Stagecoach deal was because of how much I did for that girl and how hard I tried,” he explained. “It was like I was trying to right all of my wrongs from the Calah relationship with Allie. So I was going above and beyond. And right now she’s the one that is vehemently going online and trying to smear, like, my entire bloodline every single week.”
“It is eye-opening again to say, hey, you know what? I do respect that you’re mature enough to listen to us talk crap a little bit and not go online or not go on podcasts,” he added.
