The shocking news broke on November 21 that Real Housewives of Atlanta alums Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker were divorcing after 11 years of marriage. Since then, fans have uncovered several clips that seemingly offer insight into their life together, including one in which they discuss the division of assets after a divorce.
Kandi, 49, and Todd, 52, began dating in 2011 after meeting while filming RHOA. They then married in 2014 and went on to have two children together in additon to Kandi having Riley Burruss, 23, and Todd having Kaela Tucker, 28, from previous relationships. Their separation came after years of rumors and Kandi having removed Tucker from her social media bios.
Recently, Bingeworthy posted a clip to Instagram from September 2023. In it, he, Kandi, and another woman are discussing divorce. Specifically, they’re debating the idea of men “wanting half” in a divorce. Kandi says, “Even in divorce, I don’t think it’s right when men be trying to take half of the women.”
She continued, “I don’t think it’s cool. Like I feel like a man should always be a man and be able to handle his own.”
Todd then posed the scenario of a woman who makes her money while she’s married to her husband, citing the man “nurtured you, he helped you, gave you ideas, he was a part of that progression.”
He asked about the specific situation he mentioned, “You don’t think he should get anything? You did it all?” The other woman, who is doing Kandi’s hair, asked, “What is he supposed to get?” From there, Todd emphasizes that he’s talking about a man who “really influences, who’s really there.” He also specifies that he’s highlighting a situation in which the woman “blew up” during the marriage, rather than coming into it with financial security.
Kandi then said she doesn’t believe she should have to split the money she came into the marriage with. According to her, “what I’m saying is when you and I got together in marriage, and we build, we made more businesses, we made more, there are more things happening. To me, the money that was made after the marriage, that’s, you know, a different conversation. Cause, yeah, we both contributed.”
Kenya Moore responded to the resurfaced video. She wrote, “It’s a husband’s JOB to support his wife however he can and vice versitality. That doesn’t mean a pay day. That is what support looks like.”
Many fans also responded to the clip. One person said, “To say he helped Kandi blow up is wild. I’m sure she has a prenup and anything earned during the marriage will be divided. Just sad all around that another one bites the dust.”
Another fan wrote, “Oh, best believe Todd is not walking away empty-handed.” Someone else said, “The money she made before him, he should not touch, and the money they made after from the plays and restaurants, yes, split that. Most of the restaurants closed anyway.”
