Britani Bateman confirmed that she trademarked “high body count hair,” despite Angie Katsanevas saying it first, on Tuesday night’s episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and now, fans are learning more about what exactly that means.

Following Tuesday’s show, online attorneys weighed in on Britani’s legal move, clarifying that a trademark is different than a patent, and explaining why Britani, 54, was able to trademark the phrase, even though it was Angie, 52, who popularized it with her season four shade against her.

“Let’s talk trademarks! Trademark is all about who used something first in commerce as a brand identifier. Doesn’t matter who uttered it,” lawyers from The Bravo Docket on Instagram explained.

They also wrote in an additional Threads message, “So Britani trademarked (not patented) high body count hair. No one gets trademark rights for saying it first. It WOULD matter had Angie used it in commerce first as a brand. Trademark serves as a brand identifier and is usually trademarked by the person who wants to use it commercially.”

In the comments section of the post, it was noted that “high body count” is a phrase often discussed by “red pill” internet communities, specifically involving Andrew Tate, 39, an ex-kickboxer known for his controversial stances in the world of politics.

During Tuesday’s episode of RHOSLC, Britani shared the news of her trademark with the group, declaring, “I trademarked ‘High Body Count.’” Lisa Barlow, 51, responded, “You did? That’s not yours.”

“I stole it,” Britani replied.

Then, after Angie asked Britani why she would do such a thing, Britani explained, “I was the one who took it on the chin. That’s why.”

According to Angie, it was “embarrassing” that Britani took something that someone else said and claimed it as her own.

“The person who does not have one witty line other than ‘Ting Ting Ting’ in her entire life, trademarks my line,” she complained.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season six airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
