NeNe Leakes‘ husband has been diagnosis with cancer.
As she and her co-stars begin filming the 11th season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, NeNe is facing some major drama off-screen as she and her husband Gregg Leakes prepare to fight back against the illness.
NeNe announced the news of her husband’s cancer diagnosis on Instagram on Wednesday.
“Our New Normal and the fight begins,” NeNe wrote in the caption of a photo of her husband at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. “#f**kcancer #mdandersoncancercenter #yougotthis #iloveyou.”
The M.D. Cancer Center is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas and is considered to be one of the best cancer treatment facilities in the country.
NeNe’s announcement comes just weeks after the longtime reality star confirmed she would be canceling a number of shows on her comedy tour due to her husband’s dwindling health. At the time, Gregg had been in the hospital for over two weeks.
“First of all, I just want to say that I feel very blessed and extremely lucky to be able to do what I do. I’m so grateful that you guys purchased tickets to see me everywhere,” she said in an Instagram video. “I have to cancel my Albany, New York, show and my New York City Caroline’s show. Today marks the 15th day straight that Gregg has been in the hospital.”
“I find it very difficult to stand on stage and laugh and have a good time and give you guys your money’s worth knowing that my husband is in the hospital not feeling well. He has said to me over and over again, ‘Go on, go out there, have a good time, do the show, I’m going to be fine.’ But I find it mentally very hard for me to do that,” NeNe continued. “Gregg will be out of the hospital this week. He will be stronger, he will be better and we will be out here doing this show again in no time. Thank you for loving me! Thank you so much.”
In addition to NeNe keeping her fans and followers in the loop with her husband’s health issues on social media, she’s also featured Gregg’s struggles on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and during an episode last November, he was hospitalized for a “dangerously low” heart rate.
“I can’t even imaging Gregg not walking on this earth,” NeNe said on the show. “Gregg has to get better.”
Amid Gregg’s latest hospitalization, he received a series of gifts from Real Housewives creator Andy Cohen.

NeNe and Gregg got married 1997 and divorced in 2011. Two years later, they got married for a second time and filmed their big day for NeNe’s spinoff series, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 11 will air on Bravo TV sometime later this year.
