Luann de Lesseps Slams Bethenny Frankel as 'Nasty' and Says RHONY Cast is "Relieved" She Quit, Plus How Ramona 'Freaked Out' After Thinking Bethenny Was Returning

Luann de Lesseps was taken aback when she learned of Bethenny Frankel‘s announcement regarding the end of her run on The Real Housewives of New York City.

While chatting with Jenny McCarthy on her SiriusXM Radio show, Luann revealed her reaction to Bethenny’s exit before sharing how co-star Ramona Singer reacted after convincing herself that Bethenny would be making a cameo appearance on season 12.

“I was shocked. I was surprised and not surprised in a way because I think that she’s in a relationship that I don’t think she wants to bring around on the show,” Luann explained on The Jenny McCarthy Show on October 28. “And I think that Bethenny, I always say, she’s a lot of fun. She can be really nasty.”

“I always held my own with Bethenny,” Luann continued. “Her and I have always had this up and down relationship and she’s not an easy person to manage. That part I’ll miss because it’s challenging. I found the fun in it. I’ll miss her, but at the same time, when you’re around her, it’s like walking on eggshells.”

Luann and Bethenny were two of the original cast members on RHONY when the show began airing in 2008, and they’ve appeared on eight seasons together since. That said, when it comes to moving on from Bethenny’s reign, Luann and her co-stars are ready and “relieved” to be Bethenny-free for season 12.

“The whole cast is relieved in a way and it also leaves breathing room for other women to shine and show their personalities because a lot was Bethenny coming in and stealing the show,” Luann explained. “It just leaves room for us to be a little more in our own skin, feeling more comfortable about what we are doing and shining.”

While Bethenny may have been the center of attention in recent years, Luann isn’t worried at all about the show continuing without her and said season 12 would be their best season yet.

“This season is amazing and I can’t wait for everyone to see the new season. It’s better than ever. So, I’m excited. Our new housewife is really great,” she shared.

Looking back upon the way in which Bethenny allegedly quit the show just hours before production was set to begin, Luann confirmed that nobody, even Bravo TV, knew that she was planning to leave. Luann also said it “would have been nice” for her to give them a heads up. She then agreed with Jenny that Bethenny exited the series in an inappropriate manner.

“Bravo didn’t know. [It was a] hell of a way to leave a show that’s been so good to her,” Luann stated. “Because let me tell you, when she tanked in her talk show, she came back with her tail between her legs to the Housewives.”

Also during her appearance on Jenny’s show, Luann opened up about a recent filming session in which Ramona “freaked out” about Bethenny’s potential return.

“This is insider scoop… We go to a fashion show, right? And there’s a place set for Bethenny Frankel at this fashion show while we’re filming and Ramona freaked out,” Luann shared. “She’s like, ‘Is she coming?! Is she coming?! Oh no, she’s not coming, is she?’ I’m like, ‘Ramona, calm down, it’s just a mistake. Relax.’ She’s just scared of her. She’s terrified of Bethenny. Ramona would tell you herself, she’s scared of Bethenny. Most people are.”

“She was terrified that she might come and actually be on the show sitting in that seat,” she added.
