The reality star and his TomTom co-owner, Tom Sandoval, both noted on Vanderpump Rules: The After Show that they’re not entirely married to the societal pressure to legalize relationships, with Schwartz admitting that he “would lean toward not recommending getting married.”
Schwartz clarified that he’s “very happily married,” but that he’s been “surrounded by a lot of divorce” and knows the heartbreak it can cause. “It brings out the worst in people,” he said on the After Show.
He added that he likes “wearing the ring” and to call his beloved Katie Maloney “wife,” but that he doesn’t necessarily agree with “bringing the government into it.”
“Bringing the government into it” has definitely been an issue for Schwartz, who apparently never secured the couple’s marriage license after their initial August 2016 wedding. Pump Rules fans got to see their second wedding happen in last night’s Las Vegas episode, a move to symbolically solidify the couple’s legal marital status.
Although Sandoval, who remains in a committed relationship to Ariana Madix, helped officiate Schwartz and Katie’s second wedding, he’s still not a huge fan of the whole ordeal.
“To me it just seems like an excuse for everybody to price gauge you on unnecessary [things],” stated Sandoval, who explained how his party planning past made him aware of how anxious he gets dealing with large groups of people he knows. “They’re all there at once and I get overwhelmed,” he said.
Sandoval also added how, knowing his obsession with event planning, he would “disappear for two years” trying to plan the most elaborate shindig and that he’d rather put his “time and money somewhere else.”
Pump Rules fans thought they were witnessing the couple “growing apart” during the March 31 episode, where Schwartz drunkenly blew up at his wife for having a negative reaction to Randall Emmett and Jax Taylor‘s police arrest prank they pulled on Sandoval. Schwartz said he’d “never been more turned off” by Katie in front of everyone and yelled at her for overreacting. Luckily, he apologized and Katie explained the outburst, admitting that their “fighting style” can get a bit too harsh at times.
