Teddi Mellencamp opened up about the “cheap shot” Denise Richards supposedly took against her during the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
During a conversation between Teddi and Brandi Glanville, Brandi claimed Denise had accused Teddi of living in her dad John Mellencamp‘s shadow and being “desperate” to be on the show. Teddi addressed this diss during a taping of the RHOBH: After Show before noting that Denise’s children will likely face the same allegations due to her and Charlie Sheen‘s fame. She also explained why she wanted to have an “honest” and “direct” conversation with Camille Grammer.
“I wasn’t shocked that [Denise] had been saying things about me. I was just shocked at the things that she actually said,” Teddi explained. “Because to say I’m desperate to be in this friend group or that I’ve been living in my dad’s shadow, I just thought it was not necessary. It was a cheap shot.”
“The last thing I do is try to live in my dad’s shadow,” Teddi continued. “I’ve worked my entire life. Since I was 17 years old have been working out here. I started in the mailroom at CAA. I’ve worked my butt off and I am really proud of myself. I take pride in how hard I’ve worked and the life I’ve created for myself.”
According to Teddi, she doesn’t have a trust fund. Instead, she has a relationship with her father, which she never uses as “leverage” amongst the RHOBH cast.
Teddi also added, “For somebody who has kids with celebrity parents, I thought it was really a low blow and I think that coming from somebody that has kids who are going to grow up with that same cheap shot, it wasn’t cool.”
During another portion of the After Show, Teddi looked back at her awkward conversation with Camille at Kyle Richards‘ charity event.
“I really wanted to have a conversation and be very honest with Camille because Camille can twist things in her mind sometimes,” Teddi said. “I wanted to be very direct. ‘Camille, I don’t need this from you.’”
While Teddi simply wanted to let Camille know that she didn’t need any fake banter from her, she and Denise instead turned things around to make it seem as if Teddi couldn’t take a compliment.
“[They made] it look like I’m insecure, it wasn’t about that. It was [that] I don’t need compliments from somebody that I don’t know, I don’t trust, and that I’m not interested in having that relationship with,” she explained. “I don’t need the small talk that makes it fake. Why spend your time faking it with somebody that’s going to end up turning it around anyway?”
