During a new interview, the longtime reality star and podcast host, who will soon release a new book, Caviar Dreams, Tuna Fish Budget: How to Survive in Business and Life, opened up about her decision to protect her children’s privacy.
“I’m open about everything that pertains to me. I don’t talk about my children’s lives because that’s their life and their story to tell,” Margaret explained to Page Six last week. “Anything that’s happened to me in my life and the way it relates to me —totally open. I’ll say anything. I’m TMI and feel comfortable so people can relate. Off-limits to me are things with my children.”
While Margaret won’t even say her children’s names on RHONJ, that didn’t stop her former co-star, Danielle Staub, from mentioning them during season nine. As fans will recall, Margaret was prompted to throw a glass at Danielle after she shockingly questioned her relationship with her kids during a cast trip to Mexico.
Although Margaret has no plans to include her children on any future seasons of the Bravo reality show, she did speak about her son, Bret, during her chat with Page Six.
“I will say my son — he was very thin and tiny and we’re very close — which people don’t even realize I birthed a child,” she revealed, adding that she spoke about Bret in her upcoming book.
“He was very teeny tiny and he was the smallest one on the football team. But I always say he had a heart of a lion. And I always said, ‘You’re the best. You’re going to be the greatest,’” she recalled.
As for the advice she would give to other parents, whether they’re starring on a television show or not, Margaret encouraged moms and dads to “build up [their] children.”
“That’s what makes them have a strong sense of security and feel safe… Never squash your children’s dreams. Let them be whatever they want to be. You can give advice, but always build them up,” she said.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey season 11 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
