During a new interview, Crystal suggested Sutton sparked the drama between them before admitting she was hesitant to join the show and opening up about her relationships with Erika Jayne and Dorit Kemsley.
“I am not an instigator. I will never go after someone intentionally, that’s not my personality but if I feel my integrity or anything like that is questioned, I’m going to stand up for myself,” Crystal told Daryn Carp on PEOPLE TV’s Reality Check.
During the RHOBH trailer for season 11, Crystal was seen appearing to question whether or not Sutton sees color. However, according to Crystal, the tense scene may not have been exactly as it seemed.
“With BLM and all these upticks in [anti-Asian] crimes, what we’re talking about is, ‘Let’s talk about it.’ My platform is, I don’t want you to tell me that you don’t see color. I know I see you’re white or I see you’re Latino. I see color. And I not only see it but I want you to embrace it,” Crystal explained.
While Crystal acknowledged that certain conversations were hard to have, she felt they were also “vital” for her relationships with Sutton and their castmates.
As for her decision to join the show, that came after “a lot of hesitation.”
“I think my first call was, ‘Yeah, no. That’s not happening,’” Crystal admitted during another segment of the show.
“It was really because I’ve been friends with Kathy for so many years and she just called me and said, ‘Why don’t we do this together?’ And I said, ‘Having you on it is a different story now. It’s a different conversation for me,’” she recalled.
Since joining the show, Crystal has gotten close to a number of her co-stars, including Erika, who is often described as “cold.”
“I can see why people think that [but] I’m not intimidated by coldness,” she noted. “I always chalk it up to maybe anxiety or if they just need to be warmed up to. And I’m the kind of personality, I don’t mind doing the work. She was super, super nice. So I knew that was a part of her personality but certainly not all of it.”
Crystal also spoke of her closeness to Dorit, saying, “Dorit and I have had a great friendship.”
“[She] and I spend a lot of time together because our kids are the same age,” she added.
Regarding what else fans can expect to see from the new episodes, Crystal teased “drama and lots of tears.”
“I’ve never jumped in having fun like this with brand new people but they really pull you in,” she shared. “I’ve [also] never had a group that made me cry so early. But I think when you have such a big group of such dynamic women, you’re going to have a very colorful experience with them.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 11 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
