James Kennedy had help from Lisa Vanderpump when he proposed to Raquel Leviss at a Coachella-themed bash on last week’s episode of Vanderpump Rules.
After getting down on one knee on the show, James opened up about his pre-proposal meeting with the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star as Raquel confirmed whether or not the OGs of Pump Rules will be included in their big day and revealed when she and James intend to say “I do.”
“[We] had dinner over at Villa Rosa and she actually made me get down on one knee in front of her. She was like, ‘Not bad, not bad.’ So I took the things she liked and I was like, ‘Alright, I’m gonna perfect this for the moment,'” James revealed on an episode of E! News’ Daily Pop last week.
Looking back at the special moment, Raquel said it was “so meaningful” that James put so much thought into creating a setting that was personalized to her. As Pump Rules fans witnessed, James turned Coachella into Rachella before asking Raquel to marry him beneath fireworks.
“He’s like the most romantic person I’ve ever met. Every girl dreams of having a huge, over-the-top engagement, or something very romantic, but this was way beyond anything I could have ever imagined,” she gushed.
As for whether she and James will be inviting their former castmates, including Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Jax Taylor, and Brittany Cartwright, to their wedding, Raquel said, “Most likely not.”
“Just because… I didn’t get that close to anybody that was on the previous cast and I want to keep it all positive and only good energy,” she explained. “We only get one wedding in life so we’re just going to keep it to our closest friends.”
Although Raquel and James have yet to set an exact date for their upcoming nuptials, Raquel said she and James are aiming for 2023.
“Maybe summer,” Raquel noted.
Also during the interview, James spoke of the way he and other members of the show have grown up in recent years.
“I started when I was like 21 and now I’m turning 30 in January,” James noted. “Everyone’s done so much growing up and everyone’s different and I think that’s intriguing to see. I love the character building.”
“[Lala Kent]’s done a lot of growing up and she’s an amazing mom to Ocean,” he added.
Vanderpump Rules season nine airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
