Gina Kirschenheiter opened up about the real reason Travis Mullen moved out of her home during an interview on Thursday.

Before she and Emily Simpson, 48, clapped back at Alexis Bellino, 47, for her claims of a bad edit, the 40-year-old Real Housewives of Orange County cast member spoke of Travis’ ex-wife Meghan Mullen‘s “scary” behavior as she expressed concern for her children and admitted to having doubts about her future with Travis.

“It’s not my story. This is Travis’ story. But what I can say is, there were things that were happening, and there was behavior displayed by his ex-wife that was happening in front of myself and my kids that to me was scary, and it was affecting my kids and myself,” Gina revealed during a September 26 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I worked so hard on the co-parenting relationship I have with my ex-husband [Matthew Kirschenheiter] to make everything so nice and comfortable for my children, and to now have something else potentially negatively affect them, and it’s not even my circumstance, it’s just, I need to protect my kids.”

According to Gina, she was prompted to have Travis move out after beginning to feel fearful.

“I started to feel unsafe, and that’s what I can say, and if something makes me feel unsafe, I want to move away from that. And I just needed, the things that are coming from his side aren’t just coming his way, they’re coming my way too, and I don’t know how to battle something that’s illogical, and I just needed to take a step back,” she continued. “It’s hard because we still love each other. We’re still committed to our relationship. But it’s different. It’s a different relationship than what it was and it’s learning to settle into a new normal.”

After acknowledging that her and Travis’ relationship isn’t what it once was, Gina was asked if they will ever move back in.

“We’re very aware of the fact that we’ve made this decision and this has kind of set us on a different track, and honestly, we’re very realistic about the fact that we may not be able to come back together the way we previously thought, indefinitely, and even after the kids are done through school,” she explained. “I just don’t know how that would work. It’s kind of in purgatory a little bit. I don’t know. I wish I had all the answers … but it’s extremely complicated.”

Moving on to Alexis’ suggestion that she received a bad edit for season 18, and her claim that producers didn’t show the “truth,” Gina and Emily both shot down any such thing, stating that their co-star, who recently became engaged to John Janssen, 61, the former boyfriend of her co-star, Shannon Beador, 60, was simply making excuses for what went down on camera.

“I think that everybody that complains that they got a bad edit just doesn’t want to face the reality of what’s happening there. I’ve never once blamed the edit for anything, even when I was messy and bad. That was me. I was messy and bad,” Gina noted.

And Emily agreed, saying, “Not one time in the six years have I ever picked up the phone and complained about what they’ve shown. Because they can’t edit what you say and what you do.”

Speaking specifically of Alexis’ outburst against Emily, who was hashing out her fashion show drama with Heather Dubrow, 55, Gina said, “That was you. You were acting like that that day. We were all confused by it. It made no sense.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County season 18 airs Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
