Wendy Osefo and her husband, Eddie Osefo, have been met with a roadblock ahead of their upcoming insurance fraud trial.

Months before the Real Housewives of Potomac couple, both 41, are expected to begin their joint jury trial, a new report has revealed that Eddie’s attorney, Joe Murtha, is headed for a major career change, which could impact Wendy and Eddie’s case.

“The incoming state’s attorney is supposed to be bringing Joe into the Carroll County District Attorney’s office,” an insider told The U.S. Sun on October 11, which “adds a wrinkle to an already complex situation.”

According to the report, Joe’s career change is scheduled to go into effect in January, around the time that Wendy and Eddie’s trial kicks off.

Eddie’s attorney has ties to a number of high-profile cases, including a case involving the late Linda Tripp, who was accused of illegally recording conversations she had with Monica Lewinsky, 53, amid her sex scandal with former president Bill Clinton, 80, in 1995.

As RHOP fans well know, Wendy and Eddie claimed their home had been broken into and burglarized in April 2024 while they were on vacation in Jamaica with their three kids. They proceeded to file insurance claims with three different insurance companies, even overlapping claims for certain items with two separate providers. Months later, they were arrested and accused of staging the whole thing, as it was allegedly revealed that they had returned some of the items they claimed were stolen.

“[Eddie] was asked if any of the items on the list had been returned, which he denied. He was also questioned about having other insurance but did not disclose to Homesite and Jewelers that he was also making a claim with Travelers Insurance,” court documents explained. “The total amount of loss claimed on the Sworn Statement of Loss was $2,500 for the building and an estimated $450,000 or contents/personal property.”

After Homesite denied Eddie’s claim since he failed to disclose his and Wendy’s other policies, prosecutors witnessed a post from Wendy after the alleged robbery in which she was wearing a diamond anniversary band that she claimed was taken. Then, in an April 12, 2024, email obtained by prosecutors, Eddie sent Wendy a list of their supposedly stolen items and asked if there were “additional high-value items we can add to this inventory listing (i.e., Chanel shoes, etc.)? I’m trying to get the total to exceed $423,000 which is our policy maximum.”

Additionally, after a search warrant was granted, at least 15 items that had been reported stolen, including Wendy’s diamond anniversary band, were discovered at Wendy and Eddie’s home.

Wendy and Eddie’s trial is scheduled to start on January 25. They are facing charges, including conspiracy, insurance fraud, and providing false or misleading information.

The Real Housewives of Potomac season 11 airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
