luann de lesseps interview

It’s been exactly two months since the shocking arrest of Luann de Lesseps after the Real Housewives of New York City star got drunk and allegedly attacked a police officer.

Luann, 52, was ultimately charged with one felony and two misdemeanors for resisting an officer with violence, trespassing and disorderly intoxication. She recently pled not guilty. Today, Luann is speaking up about her wild drunken night as she gave her first interview since her arrest and brief stint in rehab.

“Obviously it was a really bad night for me and something I am not proud of,” said Luann in a new interview with the NY Times.

She did the interview to promote her upcoming cabaret show which apparently is still happening at the Manhattan nightclub Feinstein’s/54 Below on Feb. 27.

Luann does acknowledges she has had to make some changes to her cabaret debut since her December 23 arrest in Florida.  “I can’t avoid the whole story of what happened to me in Palm Beach,” she said. “I’m trying to keep it light while also taking it seriously.”

Following her release from jail, Luann entered rehab for a couple of weeks as she blamed her short-lived marriage to Tom D’Agostino for her breakdown. She tweeted back then, “This was my first time in Palm Beach since my wedding and being here brought up buried emotions.”

Luann is now crediting her cabaret show for helping her get through what has arguably been one of the toughest periods of her life.

“To know that the show was totally sold out and people are still trying to get tickets is a really great feeling,” said Luann about her show which sold out in 24 hours. “That I get to come back and have something creative to sink my teeth into has been really helpful for me, because it’s been a rocky road, the past two years.”

For the time being, Luann is keeping her head up and making positive changes in her life which includes quitting smoking, practicing yoga and
attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings regularly.

“The important thing is to not take yourself so damn seriously,” she said to close out the interview. “I always think, ‘I can survive this if I keep on moving.’”

Luann’s legal case remains ongoing as she rejected a plea deal earlier this month. Details of that plea deal are however unknown. She is reportedly facing 5 years in prison if found guilty on all charges.
