Ashley Darby is experiencing “postpartum blues.”
In an emotional series of clips shared on her Instagram Story, the Real Housewives of Potomac cast member opened up about the emotional and physical struggles she’s been faced with in the weeks since the July 7 birth of her first child, son Dean.
“I am officially 15 days postpartum. Dean turned two weeks yesterday and today I experienced my first bout of postpartum blues,” Ashley told her followers. “It started because Dean has a stuffy nose and didn’t sleep last night, like, at all. Nothing longer than maybe a half hour to an hour at a time, and then I just felt like I needed to do all these things around the house. I needed to dishes, I needed to do laundry, straighten up the house, pump milk.”
“Physically, I’m not feeling very well,” she continued. “My areas are still in quite a bit of pain and physically, I just don’t feel myself. And I realize that that’s really what pregnancy is about and postpartum is about, is not only the emotions of the hormones, but also the fact that physically our bodies are still recovering from delivering a baby so we’re not really at our prime to execute the same tasks.”
Ashley and her husband, Michael Darby, welcomed their baby boy earlier this month and quickly shared their happy news with her online audience.
After sharing the news of her postpartum struggles, Ashley applauded her husband for stepping up with the baby duties and allowing her to get some time for herself.
“I have to say that I said a huge prayer of thank you today for my husband because Michael really stepped up. I didn’t really have to say anything. He saw in my face how upset and sad I was, and so he took the baby this morning and let me sleep for a couple of hours,” Ashley shared. “And he’s been working from home to help me just whenever I need.”
And just yesterday, on July 27, Ashley shared a new photo of Michael with their baby boy.
The birth of Ashley and Michael’s son came just under a year after the reality star’s tragic miscarriage in August 2018.
