While hosting a comedy show to benefit the STOMP Out Bullying Campaign days ago, the Real Housewives of New York City star opened up about her run-in with the law and her experiences with the arresting officer while also revealing whether or not she plans to stay sober for good.
“I care deeply about STOMP Out Bullying and I care deeply about The Fortune Society, and I feel like it can happen to anybody and you know helping women get their lives back after something happens like that and having been there and done it, I feel for them and I really want to help women who for the most part are incarcerated for non-violent crimes,” she explained to In Touch Weekly.
According to Luann, her arrest was “absolutely” a form of bullying.
“Wouldn’t you [call it that]?” she asked.
“I mean I got arrested for being drunk in my own hotel,” she continued. “I think it was handled very — it could’ve been handled better or differently.”
As RHONY fans will recall, Luann was thrown behind bars for disorderly conduct and battery on an officer on Christmas Eve in 2017. Looking back, Luann believes things may have escalated due to her role on the show and pointed out that the man who arrested her has since been fired.
“[He] got arrested. He’s in jail for making false arrests,” she explained.
Although Luann compared her arrest to bullying and questioned the intentions of the responding officer, she also told the magazine that she takes responsibility for “not acting the right way in front of a policeman.”
“I hold myself accountable,” she added.
During a separate interview with Radar Online, Luann revealed that while she is sober at the moment, she may “change [her] mind” about sobriety in the future.
“For the moment I am not drinking so I’ll see,” she said. “I’m just taking it one day at a time. I might change my mind. I don’t know. I’m happy right now.”
As for how she’s keeping herself clean currently, the RHONY star told the outlet she does yoga and goes to meetings “here and there.”
