Braunwyn Windham-Burke recently opened up about her alcoholism and marriage issues with husband Sean Burke.
After being seen admitting to being an alcoholic during a confessional scene on the premiere episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, the RHOC cast member spoke to host Andy Cohen on the October 21 episode of Watch What Happens Live about the “freeing” reveal. She also shared her two rock bottom moments before speaking of why Sean moved out of her Southern California rental.
“It was very freeing,” Braunwyn admitted. “I have known that I’ve had a problem with alcohol for decades and saying it so vocally and saying it in a way that I had to be accountable was a huge weight off my shoulders, huge.”
According to Braunwyn, she had not one, but two rock bottoms.
“The moment I realized I could never drink again was in Miami. I’d been on a four-day bender. I was drinking, at that point, every 15 minutes, every half hour, refilling bottles, hiding them. I was not functional. At that point, it was physical. I would start to shake if I went more than 15 minutes without a drink. That was my physical bottom,” Braunwyn explained.
“My emotional rock bottom was the first day I went to a support meeting, which is on camera,” she continued. “It was the day I threw that glass. It’s all on camera. You guys followed me through that entire day.”
During the WWHL: After Show, Braunwyn was asked about her recent statement regarding her and Sean’s marriage and their separate living arrangement. She admitted that quarantine did play a role in their decision to have Sean move out.
“A lot of this happened during quarantine. It had to do with [Glennon Doyle]’s book [Untamed],” Braunwyn shared. “When I say that Glennon’s book changed my life, I don’t mean it flippantly. Her book made me realize a lot of things about myself that I hadn’t recognized before.”
Although she and Sean are no longer living together, Braunwyn said the two of them are getting along “better than [they] ever have.”
“There’s some things that I’m going through that I’m giving myself the time and the space to acknowledge and Sean’s been very supportive,” she noted.
The Real Housewives of Orange County season 15 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
