Melissa Gorga is offering an update on her marriage to Joe Gorga after opening up about their issues on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
As fans know, Melissa and Joe have been going through a rough patch, and they candidly shared their issues on the show. Viewers watched as Joe complained about his wife’s career, and in the finale, Melissa wasn’t completely convinced their marriage would last.
Nevertheless, in a new interview, Melissa said she and Joe have subsequently worked through many of their problems after watching their fights play out on the show. And according to the mother-of-three, “they’re good” now.
“I think especially just watching this season, we’re like, ‘Wow, okay, we need to tighten it up a little bit,’ because the end of the day reality TV is not easy,” Melissa told Extra on May 20. “It’s not easy to share our lives with everyone, but I will say, we’re a pretty amazing couple.”
She added, “When you have all these other opinions, always getting thrown at you and obviously work takes me to the left while he’s to the right, so it’s a struggle.”
Before joining the show, Melissa was a stay-at-home mom and seemingly catered to Joe’s every need. Unfortunately for Joe, that’s no longer his reality now that Melissa has gained fame and success, which he confronted her about on the show.
“I would just like my wife to wait for me, and you just walk away like you don’t even have a husband,” Joe said to Melissa, per PEOPLE. “From now on, you just go by yourself while I just walk in the back. We used to be so attached, and I’m still like that. She’s just changed. You turned into this different businesswoman.”
Melissa explained to Joe that she still loves him, but she simply needs her own identity, which she also revealed in a confessional.
“I don’t want to die unhappy,” she said on the May 12 episode. “I wanna feel fulfilled, not just as a mom.”
Though the couple claims to be an open book, they have faced criticism from some fans who seemingly believe they’re faking their marital issues for a storyline, which the Envy Boutique owner addressed in March.
“It’s so real,” Melissa insisted when she spoke to Entertainment Tonight. “Bravo’s not down with that. You start doing any of that, you’re gone.”
The second and final part of The Real Housewives of New Jersey season 11 reunion airs Wednesday, May 26, at 9/8c on Bravo.
