Kathryn Dennis has reportedly been dropped by her legal team amid her ongoing custody battle with Thomas Ravenel.
According to a new report, the Southern Charm cast member has found herself in need of new counsel after her previous attorneys, Susan Rawls Strom and Pete Currence, filed a motion to be “relieved as counsel” at the end of last month due to communication issues with the reality star.
All About The Tea obtained documents filed in South Carolina in which the attorneys confirmed their relationship with Kathryn had been “irretrievably impaired.”
“Grounds for the motion are that counsel and defendant can no longer communicate, and can not agree on matters of importance to the case, and the attorney-client relationship is irretrievably impaired so much that undersigned can not effectively represent defendant,” the filing read, via Radar Online, noting that Susan and Pete would share more details privately.
Although it is unclear what those additional details are, a local insider spoke to All About the Tea about the tension between Kathryn and her now-ex-team.
“The attorneys refuse to put their stellar reputations on the line without transparent cooperation from Kathryn. Also, she doesn’t pay regularly or timely for their services, so they’re done putting up with her crap,” the insider shared. “They (the lawyers) can see the evidence is mounting against Kathryn. This is like lawyer number 12 for her…they all keep quitting, because she shows up late, tells them lies and don’t pay them, despite her big paycheck from Bravo.”
Kathryn and Thomas have been fighting over custody of their two kids, Kensington, 8, and Saint, 6, in recent years. And after an alleged incident involving Kathryn using drugs around the children, which she denied, the Southern Charm cast member was allegedly stripped of custody.
After Kathryn was reportedly placed on visitation as the kids moved into Thomas’ home in Aiken, South Carolina, she then regained joint custody in 2019 after explaining that her failed drug test for marijuana was the result of a CBD oil she had used.
“Most recently, there was a discrepancy in the results of my urine test indicating a trace amount of 16 parts per million for marijuana metabolite on June 14. However, I have not used marijuana. My hair follicle test taken on the same day was negative,” she wrote in a motion at the time.
Following the court appearance, Kathryn and Thomas were ordered to attend three co-parenting classes with a counselor and required to avoid drinking or using drugs in front of their children, and they were told not to bring new partners around them.
Southern Charm season eight premieres on Thursday, June 23, on Bravo.
