Marlo Hampton may be a peach-holder today. But years ago, she thought a full-time role on The Real Housewives of Atlanta was “never going to happen.”
While appearing on a podcast earlier this week, Marlo, who joined the cast full-time for its 14th season, explained why she once turned down a peach before discussing her ongoing feud with Kandi Burruss, shading her castmate as a “spoiled brat,” and looking back at one of their blowouts.
On the July 5 episode of Behind the Velvet Rope With David Yontef, Marlo revealed that during her time as a “friend,” naysayers and peach-holders of that time often told her, “You’re not good enough,” “You’re not their brand,” and, “You would never get it.” And it stuck with her.
“I literally put that in my heart. Like, okay, ‘You’re going to be a friend forever,'” she admitted.
But Marlo had previously been offered a peach but “didn’t accept it.”
As for why she turned it down, Marlo said that she waited too long and felt the idea didn’t fit with her lifestyle.
“At the time I sat right here in this living room with Nene and Gregg Leakes and it was like too late,” Marlo explained. “I was like, ‘No.'”
While Marlo appeared on season one without a contract because “it was just something fun to do,” she didn’t feel that taking on a peach would work with her single life.
“It just wasn’t interesting,” she noted.
Regarding her recent issues with Kandi, Marlo said that while she is thankful to Kandi for advocating for her full-time role, that doesn’t mean she’s “not going to tell the truth.”
“If your a– is wrong, I’ll call you out. And she needs that in her life,” Marlo explained, noting that Kandi has more than enough people kissing “all over her a–.”
“I love Kandi to death. But if I can’t be your friend and tell you the truth, I don’t want to be your friend,” she declared, saying that Kandi is not only “very sensitive” but also spoiled.
“She’s like a spoiled brat. A spoiled money-making brat,” Marlo stated.
Marlo then recounted one of their season 14 arguments, which was captured only in part by cameras.
“She was like, ‘Don’t talk to me.’ I’m like, ‘Girl, shut the hell up. You spoiled f-cking brat. I can talk to you. You are wrong. I can curse you out. Who the f-ck are you?'” Marlo recalled.
“I’m not worried about it. I don’t care about the followers. I don’t care about the status I care about at the end of the day, when she goes in a room and close the door, she can say, ‘Marlo is one authentic, real b-tch.’ And that’s all that matters to me,” Marlo added.
