Teddi Mellencamp faced “online hate” after suggesting Garcelle Beauvais‘ 14-year-old son, Jax, should have either not been in attendance or have been sent home early from his mother’s filmed birthday party, where he was told to “get the f-ck out of here” by Erika Jayne.
Following a series of episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that followed Erika’s unruly behavior at the bash, Teddi responded to online criticism and claims of having a “bias” by pointing out that full cast events are known to get “out of control” and saying she wouldn’t have allowed her own kids to remain present during the chaos.
“Cut the online hate. Do I think Erika should have ever done what she did? No. It was wrong and not acceptable,” Teddi began in a statement shared on her Instagram Story amid the online backlash. “From experience: Full cast events get out of control. We have all watched that. When seeing that happen I would have sent my kids home once the chaos started occurring. This is a show about drama [in my opinion]. You don’t have to agree with me. That’s the point of opinions.”
In a screenshot Teddi shared with her Story, a woman was seen calling the former RHOBH castmate out for suggesting that it was Garcelle who was in the wrong, rather than Erika.
“[How] you tell someone ‘don’t bring their kids.’ Instead of saying [Erika Jayne] should never of said that. You are so bias,” the woman alleged.
“I said she should have never said that and I wish she would have apologized to Garcelle. Not just in her confessional. I also said. Psa to all Housewives – drunken full cast events never end up a good idea with kids. Think back to [Denise Richards‘] party,” Teddi replied, giving a nod to Denise’s past kid-attended event, where threesomes were mentioned.
But the woman didn’t back down, making it clear that because it was Garcelle’s birthday and not a typical cast event, all of her children should have been there, and she accused Erika of hypocrisy.
“Remember when her child was brought up before and she freaked out? You want to talk about hypocrisy. Keep your friends accountable,” she continued.
And while Teddi said that she agreed there was “no excuse” for what Erika said to the child, she confirmed her other point still remains.
“If you see your friends getting out of hand at a full filmed event where drama is something everyone wants. Send them home,” she stated. “I am allowed to have both opinions.”
“[But] I would have also been upset if I were Garcelle,” Teddi added.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 12 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
