After attending the bash with her castmates, Erika got together with her creative director, Mikey Minden, and her co-star and friend, Lisa Rinna, to discuss what happened to her after she arrived home from the outing.
“Our girl was sh-t-faced. I mean, you were slurring your words. Did you black out when you got home?” Lisa asked, via Page Six.
“Yeah,” Erika replied, admitting she “hit [her] head” and “vomited” later in the night.
Then, in a confessional, Erika admitted the “holidays are hard.”
“And they were particularly hard for me this year because you have great memories of your family and the holidays before in the past and when things were loving and great,” she continued.
Since filing for divorce from estranged husband Thomas Girardi in November 2020, holidays have felt “desolate” to Erika. So, when it comes to enjoying holiday parties, she doesn’t “want to be in a sad, depressing place.”
“I want to have a good time, I want to feel good, I want to have fun, and so, yeah, you know what? I overdid it,” she confessed.
Because Erika was not just drinking but also taking medication to treat her depression, Lisa believed she got drunk much quicker.
“With the antidepressants, what happens is one drink is five times as stronger, maybe more,” she noted, adding that Erika was “out of control” at the party.
But Erika has a hard time turning down drinks.
“It’s hard to regulate and say, ‘Because of the medication I’m on, I absolutely cannot touch this,’” she shared.
In a confessional of her own, Lisa said she felt it was important that she and Mikey speak to their friend.
“Mikey is family to Erika, and I’m probably the closest to Erika, so Erika’s in a place where she needs to hear what the two of us have to say,” Lisa said. “Period, end of story.”
And Erika was receptive, admitting she cannot “cross that line” any longer and describing her behavior as “reckless.”
“The truth is I could have hurt myself,” she revealed. “It just can’t happen like that.”
“You have gone through a tremendous trauma. Your husband was not the guy that you or any of us thought he was, and you have had to deal with it because you were married to him,” Lisa replied of Thomas. “And you went to this place because you were in a lot of pain. You have to stop this now because you can’t do it anymore. It’s just not who you are.”
While Erika said it was “hard to accept” the relationship she had with alcohol at that time, insisting she’d “always prided” herself on being in control, she admitted, “I pushed it too far.”
“I did the wrong thing. Sometimes it’s hard to be really honest with your friends. But thank you for saying, ‘Hey, you know what, you gotta stop that sh-t,’” she told Lisa and Mikey.
Later, when Lisa told Erika she had hit “rock bottom,” Erika agreed, saying, “Yeah.”
